Chapter 1565:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“I don’t expect you to love me or be the only one in your heart,” Brielle said lightly, keeping things easy. “What if we marry by agreement? I won’t bother you after. You’d be free to do what you want.”
“Brielle,” Kristian said, clearly against the idea.
“Your family worries about you,” Brielle added.
“I’ll handle them,” Kristian said firmly, his deep eyes hard to read. “I won’t repeat old mistakes. A marriage without love is pointless.”
Brielle didn’t respond.
Kristian’s next words cut deep. “I’ve always loved Freya, and I always will.”
“She’s married,” Brielle pointed out.
“I know,” Kristian said simply.
He’d never tell Freya. He’d never let her suspect it.
They spoke a little more, but Brielle’s voice grew heavy.
In the past, when he turned her down, she kept chasing him, and he let her. He thought she’d move on eventually.
But now, since both Gerard and Felipe mentioned Brielle and persuaded him to give her a chance, he knew it was time to end her hopes for good.
Jesse overheard it all. His room was next to Kristian’s, and he stood on his balcony, staring into the dark.
After the call ended, his eyes held a flicker of confusion. Did Kristian still love Mommy?
Back in Freya’s room, Ellis pulled her into bed.
She looked at him, curious. “You don’t want to know?”
“Know what?” Ellis raised an eyebrow.
“What Kristian and I talked about,” Freya said.
She thought Ellis didn’t have a jealous streak. No matter who she was with or what she did, he never pried.

“If I’m right, the first thing he asked after I left was if I treat you well,” Ellis said, wrapping her in a gentle hug, his voice warm and calm.
Freya froze. He nailed it.
Ellis met her clear eyes. “You two aren’t great at small talk—one of you doesn’t like to chat, and the other lacks the courage to do so. There’s no need to guess.”
Plus, Freya was an open book. He trusted her completely.
“Oh,” Freya mumbled, her reply short and flat.
“Does it bother you that I don’t ask?” Ellis teased, pinching her cheek with a soft smile.
“It’s not that it bothers me. It’s just odd,” Freya said, swatting his hand away. “In most marriages, if an ex wanted to be their kid’s godfather, the husband would say no without blinking.”
“I’ve got no reason to turn it down,” Ellis said, his voice steady and sure. He was someone who could view things with a rare kind of objectivity. “Kristian’s solid in every way. He knows how to keep his distance with you, and he’s good to Nina—she adores him too. Honestly, everything checks out.” And it really did.
Truth be told, if he and Kristian had come into Freya’s life at the exact same moment and declared their love for her at the same time, he genuinely couldn’t say who she would’ve picked.
