Chapter 1669:

Nina turned halfway. “What is it?”
“I heard you’re going to Jeucwell to confess your love to a man. Is that true?” He asked without his usual arrogance, his refined face open and curious.
“It’s true,” Nina answered easily. “Why?”
“You know someone’s into you, right?” Nick hinted.
“Who?” Nina asked.
“You know… that person,” Nick replied vaguely, avoiding names.
Nina had had enough of his riddles and decided to mess with him. “Do you know someone’s been dying to punch you for ages?”
“Who?” Nick blinked, taking it seriously.
“I’m talking about Jerome,” Nick muttered, throwing his friend under the bus without a second thought. “Don’t tell me you didn’t know.”
Nina snapped, “You must be crazy. Jerome has a crush on someone else. Quit making things up.”
Nick blurted, “He’s into you, Nina. Haven’t you noticed?”
Nina shot him a look of disbelief, her eyes narrowing. “I’m out of here.”
She snatched her car keys and sped off. How could Jerome possibly have feelings for her? Before their final year of high school, during a holiday chat, she’d asked if he liked someone. He’d said yes, describing a girl who was nothing like her.
In her view, Nick was just talking nonsense.
She brushed it off and drove straight to meet her parents.
After two fun days with them, she returned to the place she shared with Jesse. Time zipped by, and soon it was Saturday.
Nina was in her room, folding clothes into her suitcase for her trip to Jeucwell. Jesse leaned against her doorframe, watching her pack. “Jerome’s planning a get-together tonight to see you off.”

“Sounds good,” Nina replied with a smile.
Jesse lingered, his mind buzzing with thoughts.
Noticing he hadn’t moved, she glanced up. “Something else on your mind?”
“I’ve got a question for you.”
“Shoot.”
“If Jerome told you he was into you,” Jesse said, testing the waters, “would you shut him out like you once said?”
Nina frowned, confused. “What’s with you guys?”
“Huh?” Jesse looked puzzled.
“Why do you and Nick both think Jerome’s into me?” Nina shook her head. “He’s got someone he likes. If he heard you two, he’d be so embarrassed.”
“Nick said it too?” Jesse caught the detail. “When?”
“A few days ago, when I saw him,” Nina said plainly.
Jesse’s eyes studied her, searching for a hint of doubt. With two people saying it, didn’t she wonder at all?
“If he really liked you, what would you do?” Jesse pressed again.
Nina paused, folding a shirt, and gave him a playful glare. “Still on about this?”
