Chapter 454:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
As soon as Winona was out the door, Ruby dialed Bailee’s number. “Is your marriage certificate genuine?”
“Mom, of course it is!” Bailee responded in a hushed tone, likely still busy at her workplace.
Before Ruby could ask any more questions, Bailee’s voice interrupted. She whispered, “Mom, I’m in a meeting. I’ll talk to you when I get back tomorrow.”
The call was abruptly ended, leaving Ruby with her questions unanswered. She let out a sigh, placing her phone on the sofa, her face full of worry.
“Mom, we haven’t figured everything out yet. Try not to worry,” Eileen said, trying to comfort Ruby. Though she had an idea of what might be bothering her, she decided it was best to wait until she could talk to Bailee and Huey tomorrow.
“It doesn’t matter whether we know the details or not,” Ruby continued. “The marriage is legitimate. I’ve seen the marriage certificate with my own eyes. There’s a seal on it! But Huey, even though he’s married, agrees to meet with another woman. How dare he?”
Ruby’s face turned pale as she struggled to contain her emotions.
Eileen gently patted Ruby on the back, unsure of what to say.
Ruby continued to voice her concerns, fearing that Huey might hide his marital status from Winona. If that happened, Winona might never give her consent, and all the blame would fall on Bailee. Wouldn’t that hurt her daughter even more?
“Mom, Bailee is 26 now. She considers her choices carefully. We all make decisions that might not turn out the way we want, but what can we do besides support her?”
Eileen, who had experienced similar challenges, understood that some things might seem clearer from the outside, but that didn’t necessarily make it easier for those involved. Bailee and Huey were deeply in love, and even with all the facts laid out, it wouldn’t change what they felt for each other.
After a while, Ruby let out a deep sigh, picked up Gabriela, and said, “Alright, I’ll stop interfering. I’ll just look after Gabriela.”
Despite her words, tears welled up in her eyes.
After all, Bailee was her daughter. She only wanted her to be happy.
That evening, Eileen made her way to the Freguson Group building.
She was set to attend a banquet with Julio and Benjamin. Since it was a business event, they had decided to attend together.
“Did Mr. Dawson allow you to come?” Julio teased Eileen in the car. “Aren’t you worried that Brandon and Lydia might cause trouble for you tonight?”
Without looking up from the latest stock updates on her phone, Eileen responded, “I’m already here, aren’t I? Doesn’t that make your question a bit pointless?”
Julio raised an eyebrow. “I must be the most spineless boss, letting you talk to me like that.”
