Chapter 981:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She was dressed impeccably, a designer handbag hanging from her arm.
The moment our eyes met, her expression changed from surprise to unmistakable anger. “Why are you still here?”
Her carefully maintained composure disappeared completely.
She crossed her arms and stood near the front door, looking at me with blatant contempt. “You and Ethan broke up a long time ago. Why are you still coming here? This is Ethan’s house. Sooner or later, it’ll belong to me anyway.”
I deliberately widened my eyes, pretending to be stunned. “What are you talking about? This house is mine. Ethan has never said anything about giving it to you.”
Melisa gave a smug little laugh, clearly pleased with herself. “He didn’t tell you? Looks like you’re not nearly as important to him as you thought.”
I decided to play along. My gaze fell onto the gray suit jacket in her hands, and I deliberately let my expression crumble. “Then… last night, were you really with Ethan?”

“Of course.” She immediately lifted her chin, her confidence swelling.
She even pushed up her sleeve to reveal several faint red marks on her arm. Her voice was filled with obvious pride. “See these? Ethan couldn’t keep his hands off me last night. You really think he will love you forever? Once the excitement wears off, men always lose interest.”
Her performance was so transparent that I nearly burst out laughing.
Ethan had spent the entire night with me, and we had barely been apart. As for those marks, I was almost certain she’d made them herself.
I cleared my throat, hiding my amusement, then deliberately sighed. I lowered my voice and allowed a hint of sadness to slip through. “People really can change so easily. I honestly thought he would be different.”
Melisa immediately took the bait. She looked at me with the superiority of someone who thought she’d already won. “I’ve told you before. You and Ethan come from completely different worlds. You never knew how to cherish him. Rola’s death was caused by the stress you put her through, and now you’re finally paying the price.”
I lowered my head and deliberately put on a remorseful expression. “You’re right… I was too stubborn back then.”
The satisfaction in Melisa’s eyes grew as she watched me play along.
I wanted her gone as quickly as possible. If Ethan suddenly came back, our entire plan could fall apart. So I lifted my head and said coldly, “Are you done? If so, please leave. I don’t have time to waste on you.”
Melisa gave an arrogant scoff. “As if I want to see you. I came here for Ethan. Since he’s not around, there’s no reason for me to stay. Just move out and stop holding on to something that doesn’t belong to you.”
With that, she spun around and stalked away, her heels clicking sharply against the ground as she deliberately swayed her hips.
I watched until she disappeared from view before finally releasing the breath I’d been holding.
