Chapter 989:

His grip hurt, but I ignored it and answered steadily, “She’s in the emergency room. The doctors are examining her.”
He released me and immediately tried to push his way inside, but Ethan stepped in front of him. “Stay here,” Ethan said firmly. “They’re treating her. Charging in there won’t change anything.”
Jeremy’s eyes were bloodshot, his hands curled into furious fists. “Was it Daisy? Did she tell that child to run into Tracy?”
I nodded in affirmation.
His expression twisted with fury. He turned toward the exit. “I’m going after her.”
Ethan caught him before he could take another step. “I’ve already sent someone after Daisy. She isn’t going anywhere.”

Jeremy stopped, breathing heavily as rage continued burning in his eyes.
Watching him fall apart filled me with a crushing sense of remorse. I knew Daisy resented Tracy, yet I’d still failed to react quickly enough. If I’d only moved sooner, if I’d put myself between that child and Tracy, perhaps none of this would have happened.
I lowered my gaze, curling my fingers into tight fists.
Ethan noticed the trembling that had taken over my body. Without saying anything, he drew me against him. His palm moved slowly across my back as he murmured, “This isn’t on you. Don’t punish yourself for it.”
I pressed my face into his chest, my voice barely audible. “If I’d gotten in front of her…”
“You wouldn’t have been able to stop it,” he said gently, cutting me off. “Nobody expected that child to suddenly charge at her. You reacted as quickly as you could.”
His reassurance made sense, but it did nothing to quiet the guilt twisting inside me.
Eventually, the emergency room doors opened. A doctor stepped into the hallway and pulled down his mask. “Who is the patient’s family?”
Jeremy immediately stepped forward. “I am. I’m her mate. How is she?”
The doctor’s expression remained serious. “She’s showing signs of a threatened miscarriage. We’ve given her medication to help stabilize the pregnancy. She’ll need to remain here under observation for several days. If the bleeding stops and there are no further complications, the pregnancy should remain stable.”
Jeremy’s shoulders dropped with relief. He leaned heavily against the wall and released a long breath. His voice came out hoarse. “Can I see her?”
The doctor nodded. Jeremy hurried through the doors without another word.
I remained outside, holding Ethan’s hand as anxiety tightened around my chest. I closed my eyes and silently prayed again and again that Tracy and her baby would be fine.
