Chapter 118:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
His breath trembled as he waited for her answer, waited for her to tell him she trusted him. But the accusatory look in her eyes gave him a completely different answer.
Kris felt like a thousand knives had been driven into his chest at once, making him stumble back from the crushing impact.
“Thalassa…” he whispered, his voice filled with confusion, his hand shaking as he stepped closer to her. “You… you really think I’m capable of doing something like that to you?”
Luisa planted her hands on her hips unrelentingly. “Cut the crap, Kris. None of us are buying it. The only reason we didn’t expose you in front of everyone is because you managed to eliminate any evidence linking you to the sabotage.”
Kris’s gaze remained fixed on Thalassa because her opinion was the only one that mattered to him. “Please think about this. Why would I do something like that to you?”
Gritting her teeth, Thalassa finally found her voice and sneered, “Have you forgotten what you said to me outside the police station when I told you I wasn’t going to stop until I made your mother pay for all the wrong she has done?”
You told me you wouldn’t let me hurt her, and you’d fight to defend her if you had to.”
“Yes, I did say I would defend my mother,” Kris admitted, then let out a frustrated sigh. “But what does that have to do with wanting your hard work to go down the drain? Saying I’ll protect my mother doesn’t mean I want to hurt you.”
A bitter smile formed on Thalassa’s lips. “Oh, it has everything to do with it. You knew that if I took the ultimate title from your mother, her company would sink even further, possibly collapse. That’s why you had my designs destroyed—so I wouldn’t even be able to compete for the title.”
Kris was stunned by everything she said. The fact that she believed he could do something so awful just because someone told her hurt him so deeply.
“Thalassa, I know deep down you don’t believe any of this,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady, though the pain was unmistakable. “You know I would never do anything to hurt you.”

“Wouldn’t you?” she shot back, her tone mocking, her eyes filled with anger and pain. “Should I refresh your memory? Because my memory tells a different story, Kris.”
Kris felt his stomach twist with regret, realizing she meant their marriage, when he’d done everything to make her suffer.
A painful lump lodged in his throat, but he swallowed it down. “You know how much I regret everything I put you through, Thalassa. I would never do anything else to make you suffer.”
“Your words mean nothing to me,” she replied coldly and signaled to the bouncer still standing behind Kris. “You can throw him out now.”
Without another glance at him, she turned and walked into the dressing room, Luisa and the rest of her team following her inside.
The guard grabbed Kris, ready to drag him out, but Kris shrugged him off.
“I know my way out,” he muttered.
With that, he made his way out of the backstage area and entered the main hall. Murmurs of accusation still filled the room, all directed at his mother, who looked increasingly frustrated.
As he looked at her, suspicion twisted in Kris’s gut. He remembered his mother vehemently telling him she didn’t want Thalassa anywhere near their lives. Had she become so obsessed with keeping Thalassa out of his life that she orchestrated this—to make Thalassa hate him even more and ensure she would never forgive him?
