Chapter 360:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
When Hayden got out of the car, she was surprised to see a familiar house in front of her.
“Lorraine, I sold this house, didn’t I?”.
Lorraine asked her assistant to take the suitcase inside the house, then explained. “Mr. Godfery is worried that you’re not used to living somewhere else, so he let me buy this house back after you left.” Hayden’s feelings were complicated.
The interior furnishings were the same as before. The only difference was the Christmas tree by the fireplace. The tree was decorated with colors, creating a Christmas atmosphere.
“This tree was decorated by Mr. Godfery before Christmas.”
“Did he invite his friends over to have a party here?” Hayden patted the bells on the tree and said, “He used to like to have parties.”
“No.” Lorraine’s voice sounded behind her, “On Christmas Eve, he stayed here alone all night.”
The hand holding the bell was stiff, Hayden turned around slowly, looking at Lorraine in astonishment, “Alone?”.
In recent years, Edison would prepare for a party a month in advance. For example, he would select and roast the turkey himself for Thanksgiving, pick out and wrap the gifts, choose the games for the Christmas Day party. Hayden always thought Edison was a funny guy.
“Yeah.” Lorraine nodded, sadness shining in her eyes, “In fact, Mr. Godfery doesn’t have many friends in the U.S., most of the so-called friends are just business associates. After his departure, for Mr. Godfery the festivals are nothing more than ordinary calendar days.”
Contrary to Hayden’s belief, Lorraine worked with Edison for many years. She often saw Edison with a frown, but whenever she saw Hayden, she hid all her worries and kept smiling.
When her company faced the forced merger, she also took time out to decorate the Christmas tree and buy gifts for Hayden and her daughter.
Lorraine offered to help with that, but was turned down.
Earlier, Lorraine thought she would go with Hayden.
Because there was no other man who loved Hayden more than Edison.
Facing Lorraine’s gaze, Hayden suddenly felt uncomfortable.
“I’ll…I’ll stay at the hotel, it’s more convenient.” Finishing speaking, she stopped the assistant who was lifting her suitcase, “Thank you, but I can carry it.”
“Hayden.” Lorraine stopped her, “Staying here is more convenient than staying at the hotel, nothing will change, everything is the same as before.”
Hayden pulled the suitcase towards himself and slowly turned around.
“It’s changed, everyone has their own life.” Lorraine’s eyes grew cold.
“Don’t you think it’s cruel to say that? Why didn’t you say that for the last five years? He loves you so much, but you used him and threw him out after using him. Why are you so cruel?”
“That’s your opinion.” Hayden was relieved, “Edison shouldn’t have let you bring me this far, I think you should go back.”
Lorraine frowned and said in disgust.
“So what? I have to let you know how much he’s done for you. All these years, you knew he was kind to you, but do you remember how kind he was to you? Or why he was so kind to you?”
“So you think I should do something to repay his kindness.” Her words stunned Lorraine.
“I should run to Edison and say ‘How about we get married for real, I won’t leave you. I know why you’re so kind to me, I love you too.’ Do you think I should respond to him like that?” In a level voice, Hayden looked at Lorraine, “In your eyes, Edison is very kind to me. But keep in mind that I married him, but he also treated me like a friend. He never asked for an answer from me, did you think I would turn him down?”.
“I think you would have.” Lorraine looked at Hayden.
“If he didn’t approach me with the fear of loss, he would have had more fears after I was actually with him. There is a knot in his heart, which makes him have no faith in love. He is kind to me, not because of love, but because of the hopes of love in his heart that will never go away.”
Hayden looked at Lorraine with a serious countenance, “As for the knots in the heart, I think you know them well.”
Lorraine was a bit taken aback.
“I’m going to the hotel. Please tell Edison that I’m very tired and won’t be seeing him today. We’ll have dinner tomorrow night.”
Looking at Hayden’s back, Lorraine felt for the first time that Hayden knew Edison better than she did.
Hayden reminded her that Edison had a knot in his heart.
She thought Hayden had healed his wounded heart, but he had not. He had been hurt badly. A man automatically avoids hurt, so he unconsciously hid the sad past deep in his heart. And the wound cannot heal for so long buried.
The thorniest thing was that Edison had been abandoned by his lover. It had nothing to do with Hayden.
After arriving at the hotel, Hayden took a shower and then lay down on the bed to have a video call with Joseph.
“I’m fine, are you worried that I won’t come back to you?”.
Joseph curved his lips, “I don’t think you’ll stay in the U.S. and leave Stella here.” Hayden sat up suddenly, with a double glare.
“That’s why you signed her up for winter camp and let me come here alone. So you consider her your hostage.”
“It’s wrong to say that.” Joseph made a meek face, “I agree with you, but the girl is not strong-willed. I’m worried she won’t be willing to come back because of Edison’s kind treatment. So it’s better for her to be my hostage, rather than Edison.”
“Clever.” Hayden rolled his eyes, “You’re arrogating bad motives to her.”
Speculating, his phone rang.
“I have to take a call.”
Hayden set his laptop aside, and paused after seeing the name on the screen. Then he pressed the green button.
“Hello.”
“It’s me.” Edison’s voice was very deep .
