Chapter 1230: (END)

“Is it Leonie?” Brinley asked, cutting him off.
Allen looked genuinely impressed. “It seems getting pregnant has made you sharper.”
Brinley shoved the document back at him. “Get out.”
“They used Leonie to get to me,” Allen pressed on. “I was worried that if they kept investigating, it would eventually reach you — or even your family. That’s why I staged that scene when Leonie pretended to have a fall.” He produced a second document containing the findings from his investigation three months prior and set it in front of her.
Brinley read through it carefully. Her heart ached for him. She’d had no idea he had been carrying all of this alone.
“I’m not saying this to ask for your forgiveness,” Allen continued. “When I once said no to marriage, it was because I couldn’t obtain a marriage certificate under the name Allen. I already knew I wouldn’t be using that name for much longer.”
Brinley was quiet for a long moment after his explanation. Just as Allen was beginning to lose hope that she would respond at all, she spoke.
“I’ll give you three months.”
“What?” Allen asked, confused.
“Three months to pursue me under your new identity. If I’m satisfied with the courtship, I’ll marry you. I won’t suffer in vain — you need to court me for three full months, not a day less,” Brinley said.
Allen could only stare at her.

“What? You don’t agree? If you don’t agree, then forget it.”
“Alright. I’ll pursue you until you’re willing to marry me,” Allen said solemnly.
Brinley suppressed a smile. “And if I’m not satisfied after three months…”
“Then I’ll keep pursuing you,” Allen interjected.
She burst out laughing. “When did you become so brazen?”
Allen colored with embarrassment and muttered, “Ryan taught me.”
“What?” Brinley asked.
“I said nothing.”
Her laughter rang out warmly through the ward.
Outside, Ryan stared unhappily at Jenessa, her arm wrapped in plaster. “Jenessa, are you really just friends with Brinley?”
His wife had not only risked her life to save another woman, but even after sustaining injuries, she had still come to check on her. It frustrated him to no end. He had been truly frightened when he saw Jenessa’s face pale and damp with pain.
Through the crack in the door, Jenessa caught a glimpse of Brinley’s smile and exhaled with quiet relief. Then she turned to Ryan, rolled her eyes, and said, “Don’t make me ruin this lovely day by having to smack you.”
She pulled him away from the ward and continued, “I was worried about Brin and wanted to see how she was doing. Who knows whether your friend Allen is still playing games with her?”
Ryan muttered sulkily, “Allen couldn’t even save his own girl without someone else stepping in. He’s completely useless.”
They made their way back to Jenessa’s room. She closed the door, then suddenly grabbed Ryan by the collar and kissed him — which silenced him immediately.
She groaned in pain and pulled back. “You still make me go through so much trouble to kiss you, even knowing I have a fracture.”
Ryan’s eyes softened. He leaned down and kissed her lips gently, then whispered against them, “I’ve been willing to bend down for you from the day I fell in love with you.”
