Chapter 1500:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Jules met her gaze. “You don’t have to worry. Grandpa wouldn’t go this far without laying down the groundwork. He’s already made sure Dewey has a place to land,” Jules said. “From now on, there will be no Holland family in Pinetree City. You are simply Corrine, the Ford family’s heiress in Lyhaton.”
Later that night, Jules walked her to her bedroom door. “It’s getting late. You should try to rest.”
“I will,” said Corrine. “Make sure you do the same.”
Once she stepped inside and closed the door behind her, Jules stood alone in the hallway, staring at the wood in front of him. His face darkened with thought.
He hadn’t told her the whole truth…
He had been in the study that evening. He heard every word of Dewey’s conversation with Carl.
What caught him off guard was how quickly Dewey disowned any link to Corrine, flatly claiming she wasn’t his daughter by blood.
He had gone as far as accusing Kiley of being pregnant before they ever married.
The accusation landed like a blow. Jules felt his stomach twist at the memory. He hadn’t been prepared for that kind of cruelty.
He couldn’t believe how easily Dewey dragged his late wife’s name through the mud—a woman who had been gone for years, who could no longer defend herself.
Trying to prove his claim, Dewey had offered his hair for a paternity test. He seemed so sure of himself, so certain the results would back him up.
Carl hadn’t said much at first, just stared at him with a look that could cut glass. Then he said, “The Holland family will declare bankruptcy soon. Dewey Holland, the CEO, couldn’t handle the failure and fell mentally ill, ending up in a sanatorium for therapy.” Those few words from Carl sealed the fate of both Dewey and the entire Holland family.

From that moment forward, the Holland family vanished from Pinetree City, and Dewey was destined to spend the rest of his days in the sanatorium.
The following day, after Corrine finished her morning routine and had breakfast, she headed straight to the office.
But as soon as she arrived, she spotted someone she hadn’t expected.
From behind her car’s steering wheel, Corrine noticed Bruce lingering near the company’s main entrance.
It had been a while since their paths last crossed after the bidding event.
Given the current state of the Ashton family, Corrine assumed he would be far too busy to show up like this. Yet, here he was.
The truth was, Corrine’s assumptions were correct.
The Ashton family was indeed struggling. Farris was bedridden and unresponsive in a hospital room, while tensions simmered within the family. Beneath a facade of unity, each member schemed to claim a larger share of the inheritance during Farris’ fragile days.
Bruce’s life had become a whirlwind of rushing between the office and the hospital, never finding a moment’s rest.
He had lost his usual air of confidence and charm.
Nonetheless, he had made an effort to dress well for this meeting with Corrine.
It seemed that loss often stirred memories and regrets.
