Chapter 1737:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“You’re being foolish over a man!” Leif growled from the other end.
Corrine didn’t argue. She simply let him rant.
Then, something crossed her mind. “Have you heard of the Powell family?” she cut in.
“Yes, I have,” Leif responded without hesitation. With his renowned medical skills, he had long been on the radar of elite families and had picked up bits and pieces about the Powells during his interactions. “They’re the only family on the Independent Continent that can rival the Hopkins family. While the Hopkins family relies on their brute strength and immense wealth, the Powells draw power from the Elder Council.”
He paused, then continued, “The Elder Council was created to maintain balance among the families on the Independent Continent. It ensures that no single family becomes too powerful. That’s why the Powell family has received repeated backing and has risen to their current position. The council’s membership is strictly vetted, except, of course, when it comes to the Powells. Their members come and go freely, which shows their unparalleled privilege within the council.”
The last time she was here, Corrine had heard whispers of the Elder Council.
“Is the Powell family’s status on the Independent Continent higher than the Hopkins family’s?” she asked.
The Elder Council was an entity that stood above all the prominent families in the region. And with the Powell family backed by this powerful council, their status seemed unparalleled.
“Not necessarily,” Leif responded. “The Hopkins family holds an unrivaled position, and Nate’s reputation is so formidable that even the Elder Council treads carefully. That said, the Powells have had a long-standing conflict with the Hopkins family. It wouldn’t be wrong to say the two families are like fire and water.”

He paused, a note of suspicion entering his voice. “Why the sudden interest in the Powell family?”
“Just curious,” Corrine replied, keeping her expression neutral.
She had heard the name mentioned earlier when Nate left.
But Leif wasn’t convinced.
“Corrine, listen to me,” he warned. “Don’t get involved with the Powell family. They’re especially dangerous. Mysterious, even. To this day, no one knows how they suddenly emerged or how they managed to gain the Elder Council’s support. Their strength is immeasurable. When they first appeared, many families joined forces to push them out. There were strikes, public protests, and even a coordinated campaign to drive them away. And yet, the Powell family came out completely unscathed. Meanwhile, the families who opposed them vanished without a trace overnight.”
“Vanished without a trace?” Corrine raised an eyebrow. “That sounds farfetched.”
It did sound like an exaggeration. Usually, things that existed couldn’t simply be erased. But the Powell family had managed to erase all traces of their enemies as if they’d never existed. That spoke of terrifying capabilities.
Leif gave a short, knowing laugh. “Do you really think a family that rose to power that quickly is weak? I don’t know what your concern is about them, but take my advice seriously. Don’t cross them unless you have no choice.”
“Got it,” Corrine responded, her tone light.
