Chapter 195:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
In those trying times, Alexa sat in her modest office, surrounded by case files that had exhausted her. The dim lights in the room cast a gloomy atmosphere as cold coffee pooled in her cup. Worry lines were etched across her forehead, and her blue eyes sparkled with regret. She felt as if everyone had turned against her, that Max’s scheme had succeeded in tarnishing her reputation.
She received a call from her manager, his voice firm, almost palpable through the phone.
“Alexa, the situation is tough. You need to withdraw from the case. Things are getting complicated, and people are starting to talk. I don’t want to see you in an embarrassing position.” His tone was serious, but beneath it, there was an underlying concern for her professional future.
“But sir, I need to prove his innocence!” Alexa replied, her words flowing from a heart weighed down by worry.
“You don’t have a choice. You must distance yourself from this matter,” her manager insisted before abruptly ending the call, leaving Alexa in a state of confusion.
She felt as if the world had closed in around her. Her heart pounded fiercely, yet deep down, she experienced a sense of liberation, as if she had shed a heavy burden.
“But was this the end?”
She stepped out of the office and resolved to walk the familiar streets that meant so much to her. The roads were crowded, but her mind was consumed by a single thought: Michael. She couldn’t shake her feelings for him, despite everything he had done and his ties to the mafia that had caused so much pain.
In a corner of the street, she found him standing alone. Michael gazed down at the ground, as if carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. His features were steeped in sorrow, and his tousled black hair mirrored his troubled state. Alexa approached him, and when he saw her, a complex mixture of joy and pain crossed his face.
“Michael,” she called out, her voice trembling.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why? Why did you leave the case?” he asked, his heart seemingly bursting with questions. His tone conveyed deep pain, his voice low and fractured.
“Didn’t you want to see him win?”

“I didn’t want to be the reason for your imprisonment,” she answered, her eyes shimmering with tears.
“I was torn between my love for you and my duties as a lawyer.”
Michael looked at her sharply and then said, “You’ve let me down. You were someone who believed in justice, yet you abandoned your case so easily. Did you really love me?”
“I loved you, but I can’t be part of this world,” Alexa replied.
Her heart racing, she said, “If you want me to come back to you, you have to let go of the mafia. Can you do that? Can you start a new life?”
Michael fell silent, confusion filling his eyes. He was caught in a violent internal struggle. A part of him longed to escape it all and start anew with Alexa. Yet, he also knew that the mafia was a part of his identity, and there were things he could not easily shed.
“Do you think I can do that?” he asked slowly, his voice lacking confidence.
“Can you promise me that things will be the way they were?”
“I can’t promise anything,” she replied, her eyes locked onto his.
“But I believe that love can overcome everything. You must be ready for change. I won’t be in your life if you cling to the past.”
Michael took a deep breath, running his hands through his hair as if trying to regain his balance.
“I need time. I can’t tell you now what I’ll do.” His words were faint, but deep within, he knew he loved her.
“Michael, I want you to be happy,” Alexa said gently.
“But you have to choose the path you want to walk. I can’t be the reason for your loss.”
Michael pondered her words. The conflict raged in his mind, yet his heart leaned toward Alexa.
“I promise I will think about it. I’ll try to be better. But you should know that it won’t be easy.”
“I’m here for you,” Alexa replied, her eyes shining with hope.
“But you have to be honest with me.”
Before she could say more, an unfamiliar voice interrupted from behind. A mafia associate approached them, casting a suspicious glance.
