Chapter 910:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“Amelia, Kole just called me. He said Sanford is in the hospital in Novaterra because of alcohol poisoning. Could you ask Mr. Stewart if he knows what’s going on with the Chapman family?”
“I will call him right now. Give me a few minutes.”
The wait felt endless, but Amelia soon rang back. She explained Paulina’s health situation first, then continued, “Sanford traveled to Novaterra to handle a project for his mother.”
Hearing traffic in the background, she asked, “Carlee, where are you right now?”
“I’m heading to the airport.”
“The airport? You’re going to see Sanford?”
“I can’t sit still knowing he’s like that. I need to go check on him.”
Amelia didn’t try to talk her out of it. Her voice softened. “Then please be careful. Message me when you land in Novaterra.”
“Don’t worry; I will.”

When Carlee reached the terminal, she learned that a flight to Novaterra was boarding soon. Unfortunately, both first class and business class were already full. Only a single economy seat remained, placed right beside the cabin door, where noise was constant and unavoidable.
The next flight wouldn’t depart for another hour and a half. After only a moment’s hesitation, Carlee bought the ticket for the plane leaving immediately.
She had never flown in economy before. The space felt overwhelmed with people packed close together, overheated from too many bodies, and filled with clashing scents of food and perfumes.
Within minutes, discomfort settled over her. Less than thirty minutes after takeoff, a pounding ache throbbed behind her temples. The journey from Kretol to Novaterra stretched more than ten long hours. During that time, she lost track of the number of times she hurried to the restroom to vomit, her stomach twisting relentlessly.
By the time the plane touched down, she felt hollowed out, exhausted.
Stepping outside the airport, she suddenly remembered that she had forgotten to send her flight details to Kole. She quickly searched for his number. But waiting for him to organize a driver meant losing more time.
After a few seconds of internal debate, she waved down a taxi instead. When the vehicle stopped at the hospital entrance, she called Kole. Once he told her that Sanford was on the top floor of the inpatient building, she headed toward the elevator without delay.
She approached the nurses’ station, intending to ask for Sanford’s room, when a soft voice nearby caught her attention, calling Sanford’s name.
A striking woman spoke with tender patience. “Sanford, could you lift your hand for me?”
Claudia Vance, a member of the powerful Vance family in Kretol, had long been regarded by Paulina as the ideal future daughter-in-law.
From where Carlee stood, the atmosphere inside the hospital room carried an intimacy that pierced straight through her.
Sanford rested weakly on the bed while Claudia occupied the chair beside him, her posture subtly angled toward his body. Although Carlee could not view Sanford’s expression from her position, one detail struck her sharply. Claudia’s fingers were curled around his hand, and with her other hand, she wiped his forearm with deliberate gentleness, using a neatly folded towel.
