Chapter 293:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Miles away, in the sleek, glass-walled offices of Aethel Intelligence, the atmosphere was equally tense, but the energy was entirely different. It was the focused, electric hum of a war room.
Elisa stood at the head of a long conference table, a holographic display of data streams floating in the air in front of her. Her posture was impeccable, her dark suit sharp and authoritative. She was no longer the woman fleeing a penthouse; she was Faye, the architect of empires.
Tessa Vaughn sat across from her, her young face etched with frustration. She was scrolling through her tablet, her brow furrowed. “The JHU collaboration is stalled,” Tessa reported, her voice tight. “Allena Sinclair is using her position at Vanguard Medical to initiate a ‘compliance review’ of our partnership.”
“What kind of review?” Elisa asked, her voice as calm as a frozen lake.
“She’s demanding we submit our core algorithmic logic and the sensitive training data for Project Chiron,” Tessa said, the words tasting like poison. “She claims it’s to ensure regulatory alignment. If we don’t hand it over, the review doesn’t pass, and the JHU board won’t sign off on the next phase.”
Elisa’s expression didn’t flicker. “And our legal team?”
Tessa threw her hands up in exasperation. “They’re playing the big firm game. Every email takes twenty-four hours to be ‘reviewed by counsel.’ Every call ends in ‘we’ll get back to you.’ They’re stalling, Elisa. They’re trying to bleed us out with paperwork.”

Elisa turned to the holographic display. Her fingers moved swiftly, swiping through pages of the digital contract until she found the specific section. She enlarged it, the text glowing blue in the dim room.
“Section 7.4.2,” Elisa read aloud. “Either party may terminate the agreement and seek damages if the other party causes an unreasonable delay exceeding fifteen business days without just cause.”
Tessa stared at the screen. “But they’re claiming the review is ‘just cause.’ It’s a compliance issue.”
A cold, razor-thin smile touched Elisa’s lips. “Then we make their cause unjust.” She picked up her phone. “Get me Harvey Sterling. Now.”
A moment later, the video call connected. Harvey Sterling, Aethel’s lead outside counsel, appeared on the screen, his face serious. “Faye. What’s the situation?”
“Harvey, I need you to draft a cease-and-desist letter,” Elisa said, her tone leaving no room for argument. “Direct it to Allena Sinclair personally, and to the board of Vanguard Medical.”
“What are the grounds?” Harvey asked, already typing.
“Abuse of commercial terms, anti-competitive behavior, and attempted theft of trade secrets,” Elisa listed, each word a precise strike. “They’re using a sham compliance review to force the disclosure of proprietary technology. That is not due diligence. That is espionage.”
Harvey let out a low whistle. “Strong words.”
