Chapter 227:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Before the formal presentation began, Damon stepped over to my side of the table and lowered his voice. “I read your optimization paper on multidimensional data pipelines last month, Ms. Sargent. Your approach to decoupling the ingestion layer is ambitious, but our Zephyr architecture runs under extreme concurrency.”
I met his guarded gaze with complete calm. “Your architecture is well conceived, Mr. Ross. The bottleneck isn’t in your core logic. It’s caused by memory allocation contention in your thread pools. I’ve redesigned the synchronization protocols to eliminate that friction entirely.”
Damon’s brow furrowed in surprise, and a flicker of genuine technical respect crossed his eyes. “We’ll see how the benchmarks hold up during the walkthrough,” he said, taking his seat at the head of the table.
Just as we were preparing to project our diagnostic architecture onto the main monitors, the conference room door opened once more.
A familiar figure stepped inside.
It was Dayna Nixon.
She wore a designer business suit, her makeup immaculate, though a subtle tension still lingered around her eyes after her devastating humiliation at the Four Seasons. As she walked in, she put on an expression of sweet, effortless professionalism.
Damon Ross looked up and greeted her politely. “Miss Nixon, welcome. I understand Carlisle Media arranged a project observer seat for this collaboration.”
“Good morning, everyone,” Dayna said smoothly, her voice musical and polite. “I’m delighted to join the Synapse team as corporate observer.”

Mr. Stone quietly explained to Casey and me that Dayna had been assigned as an observer through a preexisting corporate sponsorship between Carlisle Media and Synapse, finalized before the Four Seasons briefing. I felt a faint, ironic amusement. Blake and Warren Nixon had spent money to buy her visibility, but in a room governed by rigorous data engineering, superficial corporate titles meant nothing.
We turned our full attention to the dual displays, completely ready to demonstrate the mathematical superiority of our architecture.
