Chapter 242:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
In the quiet room, Marcus’s voice came through clearly. “Cyrus, Carlisle Media just released an urgent corporate statement. Blake Carlisle has formally filed a response to Corinne’s custody petition in Manhattan Family Court, requesting a full evidentiary hearing.”
I set my teacup down with complete composure. The legal battle for Lily’s exclusive primary residential custody had officially begun, and I was fully prepared to defend my daughter’s future in court.
Cyrus ended the call and set his phone aside. He turned to me, deep, quiet concern in his sharp grey eyes as the firelight flickered across his face. “Marcus confirmed that Blake’s lawyers are trying to build their case around Carlisle Media’s wealth and the estate’s resources.”
“Blake acts out of corporate habit, Cyrus,” I said with a serene smile, smoothing my wool sweater. “He assumes custody can be negotiated with financial leverage. But Arthur Vance and I have built an airtight case grounded in genuine maternal presence.”
Cyrus looked at me, warmth softening his austere features. “If you need independent character testimony or institutional backing regarding your leadership at Nexus, my entire foundation board is ready to help.”
“Thank you, Cyrus,” I said sincerely. “Your integrity and friendship mean a great deal to me.”

Beside the stone hearth of the lakeside cottage, the firelight cast warm amber reflections across the room as little Daisy finished coloring a constellation chart on the coffee table. Cyrus watched her with affectionate care before turning back to our conversation.
“The upcoming hearing will be an objective evaluation of the facts, Corinne,” he said quietly. “Your MIT credentials, your proven leadership at Nexus Analytics, and your devotion as a mother make up an unshakable case that no PR campaign can overturn.”
“Truth and competence need no embellishment, Cyrus,” I agreed softly, watching the embers glow. “I’m fighting for my daughter’s peace, not for public vindication.”
We spent another peaceful hour by the fire before packing up our gear for the drive back to Manhattan.
As Cyrus steered his dark SUV along the winding highway, the quiet night wrapped the cabin in tranquil stillness. In the back, little Daisy fell asleep in her car seat, worn out from her day in the snow.
“Blake believes corporate pressure can force concessions,” Cyrus remarked smoothly, his eyes on the road ahead. “He doesn’t understand that an independent leader answers to no one.”
“External corporate games have no power over me,” I replied, watching the distant glow of the city skyline rise on the horizon. “My focus is entirely on making sure Lily has stability.”
Cyrus glanced over, his grey eyes filled with deep respect. “Your daughter is truly fortunate to have a mother as strong as you.”
We reached Manhattan before nine o’clock. Cyrus pulled up outside my apartment building and waited to make sure I made it into the lobby safely.
“Arthur Vance has our foundation’s full backing for the custody hearing, Corinne,” he reminded me warmly, with a supportive smile. “Rest well tonight.”
“Thank you for an extraordinary weekend, Cyrus,” I said sincerely before stepping into the warm foyer.
I took the elevator up to my apartment, my spirit deeply refreshed and fully prepared for Monday’s legal and corporate milestones.
