Chapter 244:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Corinne POV
I spent the night in the armchair beside Lily’s bed, checking her temperature every few hours to make sure the fever didn’t return. By morning, Lily woke up lively and bright, her forehead cool and her appetite fully restored as she eagerly asked for breakfast.
I helped her get dressed, walked her down to the breakfast room, and made sure she was happily eating her cereal under Mrs. Hayes’s attentive care.
With my duty as her mother fulfilled, I prepared to leave for my Manhattan apartment and Nexus Analytics.
As I descended the grand staircase toward the foyer, Blake stepped out of his private study holding a leather document portfolio. He wore a dark wool suit and looked rigid and intense.
“Corinne. Stay for breakfast,” he said, the command in his voice thinly veiled as an invitation.
I stopped on the bottom step and looked at him with quiet, level detachment. “Thank you, Mr. Carlisle, but I have early executive briefings at Nexus Analytics.”
Blake stepped closer, his dark eyes searching my face. “Arthur Vance served the formal custody petition at my office on Monday. You’re demanding exclusive primary residential custody of Lily.”
“That’s correct,” I said calmly, my voice smooth and unshakable. “Lily needs a stable, consistent environment, free from public media spectacles and corporate PR distractions. My home in Manhattan and my professional stability provide exactly that.”
Blake’s jaw tightened. “Lily belongs at the Carlisle estate. I’ve put every resource she could need right here.”

“Resources are no substitute for a mother’s presence, Blake,” I replied evenly, meeting his gaze without a flicker of hesitation. “Your public choices over the past few months have shown that your corporate ambitions come before any consistency at home. My petition will allow the family court to evaluate the facts objectively.”
Blake stared at me, his dark eyes reflecting a turbulent mix of anger, regret, and reluctant realization. He was used to dictating terms in boardrooms, yet he found himself completely powerless against my calm legal precision.
“We can settle family matters privately, without a court battle, Corinne,” he said, his voice dropping.
“Our divorce was finalized months ago, Mr. Carlisle,” I responded coolly. “A formal custody order will give my daughter the clean legal clarity she deserves.”
Without waiting for his reply, I stepped smoothly around him, walked out the front doors to my sedan, and drove toward Manhattan.
The morning sun lit up the highway as I headed for Nexus Analytics. I had set firm boundaries, protected my daughter, and held my ground with complete dignity. The path ahead was perfectly clear.
Blake POV
I stood alone in the grand foyer of the Carlisle estate, watching the heavy oak front doors swing shut as Corinne drove away. The quiet hum of her sedan’s engine faded into the morning, leaving me surrounded by a heavy, suffocating silence.
I looked down at the formal petition Arthur Vance had delivered to my desk, a binding request for Corinne to secure exclusive primary residential custody of Lily.
Every clause had been drafted with razor-sharp legal precision, documenting Corinne’s full financial independence as Senior Managing Partner at Nexus Analytics, her academic standing from MIT, and her unwavering commitment to Lily’s stability.
A crushing wave of realization washed over me.
