Chapter 1242:

Hadley caught her friend’s drift immediately. She shot Elissa a playful glare, popping her bubble. “He is with Linda now, you know—they’ve already moved in together.”
“Really?” Elissa’s face registered complete surprise. “Can that be possible?”
“Absolutely,” Hadley confirmed, arching an eyebrow. “They’ve not only been a couple but also shared a home even before Joy underwent her operation.”
“Unbelievable!” Elissa’s hand flew to her chest. “Some people really don’t hesitate when it comes to making bold moves! To think Linda once dated Ernest! And right after parting ways with him, she didn’t skip a beat before moving on to Eric. Such flexibility! She’s practically unstoppable!”
With an approving gesture, she raised her thumb. “Kind of impressive! She has my respect.”
“True,” Hadley agreed with a nod. “It takes such flexibility to achieve one’s deepest desires.”
As the morning sun rose, the doorbell echoed through the house, prompting Melba to open the door. Eric was on the doorstep, clutching a paper bag emblazoned with the Red Shell Bistro logo.
“I brought blueberry cheesecake for Joy,” he announced.
Since Joy had missed out on it the previous day, Eric had placed an order with Red Shell Bistro the previous evening and collected it early this morning to deliver.
Melba eagerly accepted the bag. “Joy’s going to be overjoyed when she sees this! Would you like to step inside for a while?”
Eric paused, hesitating, but then a sudden coughing from within the house caught his attention.
He glanced at Melba with concern. “Is that Hadley coughing?”
“Yes,” Melba replied as Eric’s expression grew more concerned, and he stepped inside without further hesitation. “What’s causing her cough?”
Inside, Hadley was trying to soothe her throat with a glass of water. Following him, Melba elaborated, “Her coughing began last night. It was so intense that it echoed into my room.”
After finishing her water, Hadley swiftly donned a mask. She greeted Eric with a nod. “Morning.”

“Morning…” Eric’s gaze lingered on her face. Despite the mask, he noticed she seemed thinner than just the day before. “Did you cough all night? Have you taken anything for it?”
“Yes, I have…”
“What did you use?”
“Let me show you.” Before Hadley could retrieve it, Melba was already extending the medicine to Eric. “I heard her coughing throughout the night and managed to get this, but it doesn’t appear effective.”
Eric examined the bottle; it was ordinary cough syrup. “This isn’t adequate.”
“How can you expect quick results?” Hadley remarked calmly. “These things need time. I’ll visit the doctor later for an IV, and I’ll bring up my coughing problem.”
“Breakfast’s almost ready. You should have some before you go,” Melba offered, setting aside the cough syrup and making her way to the kitchen.
“Take your time,” Hadley managed to say before another coughing fit interrupted her.
She glanced at Eric, a mix of discomfort and confusion in her eyes. “Joy usually sleeps in. Aren’t you heading out soon?”
