Chapter 186:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Dolores looked at the bracelet on her wrist and smiled. “Why, do you have a special interest in feminine accessories?” Charles choked.
“Not really…”
“Why do you ask then?” asked Dolores sharply.
If she hadn’t seen Victoria’s portrait in her study by accident, she wouldn’t have become so alert.
This jade bracelet was Victoria’s. Now that he was asking her about her, Dolores unconsciously put herself on guard.
She clenched her fists silently, wondering what her relationship to Victoria was.
No one would put a picture of a stranger in his study, would they?
He put it on the desk. Obviously, he looked at it often.
Charles rubbed his forehead and laughed. “Aren’t you tired of thinking so much?” He had clearly sensed Dolores’s wariness of him.
“I don’t know her in person. I’ve only seen her picture,” Charles said frankly. He placed the photo on the desk because he wanted to check if Dolores knew her. The photo was not placed there before.
Looking at the bracelet on her wrist, he continued, “I’ve made you stay here because this jade bracelet looks exactly like that woman’s bracelet. I guess… you could be her daughter.”
Dolores was speechless.
She did not speak.

Charles did not insist on asking her.
“Please go rest.”
Dolores frowned, still not believing what he had said. “You don’t know her, but you thought I was her daughter and made me stay here. Isn’t it for her sake? Why would you do such a great favor for the sake of an unknown woman? Do you think I’m going to believe that?”
Dolores did not hide her curiosity about his identity. “What is your relationship with her, is she related to you?”
Actually, she wanted to ask if they were mother and son.
She couldn’t think of any other explanation. The only guess she had was that Charles was the son Victoria had with another man before she married Jayden.
However, in Dolores’ opinion, Victoria should not be that kind of woman.
Therefore, she was quite confused about this matter.
“Let’s make a deal, shall we?” suddenly suggested Charles.
Dolores thought for a moment and asked, “What kind of a deal?”
She didn’t dare to agree to any kind of deal with him so easily.
“You want to know who I am, and I can tell you, but you must answer me one question truthfully,” Charles said.
After thinking about it, Dolores said, “Okay.”
Compared to herself, she believed Charles had more secrets.
“The lady first. Please ask.” Charles was fully prepared as he suggested the deal.
Dolores thought for a while and asked, “What are your parents’ names? Where are they from? Where are they now?”
Charles frowned. “You just asked a question?”
“Yes, I did,” Dolores replied affirmatively without any sense of guilt. “I only asked one question about your parents, didn’t I?”
Charles burst out laughing. He could not answer Dolores’ explanation at all. She was indeed sharp-tongued.
Looking depressed, he replied, “I don’t know who my mother is, because I was an orphan. My adoptive father’s name is Nathan White, a local from White City. He was also the successor of the White Group. After his death, he asked me to take over the White Group. Before he died, he made a request of me…”
He paused. His eyes, staring at Dolores, deepened. “He expected me to marry the daughter of a woman named Victoria Forbis. I thought you were the girl.”
Dolores wondered if that was the reason why, after saving her, he had kept her here.
But, she couldn’t help but wonder who her adoptive father Nathan was and what his relationship to Victoria was.
“I’m done answering you. Now it’s my turn.” Charles was quite calm. “Are you ready?”
Dolores’ brain was working quickly, wondering what he would ask her and how she would answer.
“Are you ready?” Charles urged her.
“Yes.” Dolores looked up at him.
Charles raised his eyebrows slightly. “I have a business dinner this Saturday. Please be my escort to attend it.”
Dolores frowned, wondering if she had misheard something.
What had he said?
He had asked her to be his date to attend a business dinner, hadn’t he?
“Didn’t you want to ask me a question?”
“I don’t think I can get to know you well with just a question, so I’d rather make the most of the opportunity.”
Dolores was speechless.
“You can’t take back your words now. A human being must have integrity, mustn’t he?” Charles smiled complacently.
“I won’t hurt you. I can probably surprise you.” He blinked, looking at her.
Dolores wasn’t expecting much. As long as it wasn’t panic instead of the supposed surprise, she would thank God.
“Your condition disobeys the rule. I can be your date, but you must promise one thing too.”
“I answered your question.” Charles blinked, realizing that Dolores was not willing to suffer any loss.
“Then please ask me a question instead.” Dolores raised her head. Obviously, she didn’t want to cooperate with him. If he didn’t promise her, she wouldn’t agree to be his date.
Charles looked at her for a moment and said helplessly, “All right. I can promise you one thing. Tell me what it is.”
“Let me make the calls.”
In all certainty, Charles knew she would ask.
“Yes, you can, but you can only contact your family after you attend the business dinner with me.”
Dolores did some quick math: Saturday was still three or four days away. As long as she could contact her family, she was willing to wait and tolerate a few more days.
“Go to bed soon.” Charles smiled cheerfully at her.
The next few days passed quickly. After the doctor’s professional massage, Dolores’ ankle was almost recovered. She could now walk properly, but she would not be able to do so for long, as she had not fully recovered.
“Miss Flores, this is from the Young Master.” Amelia entered with a delicate box in her arms.
Dolores was twitching her ankle as she sat on the edge of the bed. Hearing her, she raised her head and asked, “What’s in the box?”
Amelia shook her head. She was very envious of Dolores, who could receive a gift from the Young Master.
“Miss Flores, won’t you open it and take a look?” Amelia stood beside the bed with the boxes in her hands. Looking at the expressionless Dolores, she added, “The Young Master rarely gave a gift to others.”
She wondered why Dolores wasn’t excited.
At least, Amelia had never seen the Young Master give a gift to others.
“You can open it,” Dolores said casually.
Amelia’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Do you want me to open the box for you?” Dolores thought about it for a moment. She didn’t think it was very polite to ask someone else to open it, although she wasn’t expecting any gifts from Charles. “I’ll do it.” She reached out and opened the box.
Inside was a dress.
“Gee!” exclaimed Amelia. “Isn’t this dress the one you designed last time? The Young Master asked the tailor to make it.”
Dolores saw it too. She picked up the gown and felt the delicate silk satin, which gently draped and then stretched.
“It’s so beautiful!” Amelia stood stunned, touching it. “What material is it made of, why is it so soft and smooth?”
“It’s real watered gauze.” Dolores had not expected Charles to ask the tailor to make the dress using watered chiffon.
There were many imitations of watered gauze with high prices, but they were not the real fabric.
Watered gauze was known as the noble fabric in the weaving business. It also had other names such as “the soft gold” and “the queen of fiber”.
It was the highest quality fabric in silk products.
The craft was quite complex to produce this fabric. There were not many masters who could make this type of cloth, and the craft was on the verge of being lost.
Even Dolores’ knowledge of this fabric was found in books and on the Internet. She had only seen one dress made from the chiffon scattered in Mrs. William’s closet.
It was so valuable and rare that not many rich people could get such a dress.
She wondered where Charles had gotten this fabric. It was a large piece because his design was an evening gown with a long hemline, which would use a lot of fabric.
Amelia didn’t understand anything about it. She just thought the style was pretty and the fabric was soft and silky, shiny. Although it was a long black dress, it didn’t look dull or old. On the contrary, it looked elegant, graceful and sexy.
“You will look very beautiful after you put it on.” Amelia deeply hid her envy.
“Do you like it?”
Dolores raised her head at the sound of Charles’ voice, to discover that he was wearing a blue gingham suit with a light-colored tie. Even though he was sitting in a wheelchair, he still looked quite handsome.
