Chapter 1236:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Unaware of how much time had passed, Kallie was taken aback by the sight of a magnificent mansion before her. Apparently, whoever lived there was very wealthy.
Exhausted and unwilling to turn back, Kallie decided to ask for some warm coffee and rest a while before continuing her quest. She was too anxious to rest until she found Jake.
Kallie approached the gate and knocked. A servant quickly opened it and was puzzled by Kallie’s disheveled appearance.
“Hello, may I help you?”
Through the gap of the door, Kallie could see the interior decor. It radiated a timeless elegance and traditional charm. For her safety, Kallie quickly texted her assistant her location, instructing them to alert the police if she failed to message again within ten minutes.
After briefly sharing her plight, the servant went to consult with the homeowner.
Shortly thereafter, someone came to lead Kallie inside. She was taken to the living room and handed a steaming cup of coffee.
The first sip sent warmth coursing through her body. Her face no longer appeared as pale as before.
Upon finishing the coffee, Kallie felt neither dizzy nor weak. It was clear the coffee was just coffee—there were no drugs in it. Her demeanor relaxed significantly.
Gratefully, Kallie smiled at the servant next to her and said, “Thank you for the coffee. I have matters to attend to, so I’m taking my leave now.”
Kallie refrained from asking any questions, deducing from the surroundings that the occupants were wealthy, likely from some prestigious family in Burmoos. If she stayed longer, she might be recognized. Plus, if she asked too many questions, others could easily deduce something had happened to Jake.
Kallie was keen to keep Jake’s incident under wraps for now. She couldn’t afford to take any risks herself.

Just as Kallie was heading out, the servant who had brought her the coffee hurried over and stood in her path.
“Miss,” the servant said.
Kallie eyed the servant obstructing her path and frowned, becoming more cautious.
“Is there something else? Why are you preventing me from leaving?”
The servant nodded.
“Madam would like to meet you now that you’ve rested for a bit.”
“Meet me?” Kallie’s eyes widened with surprise. She became even more wary.
After a while, Kallie asked cautiously, “Why does she want to see me? Does she know who I am?”
The servant shook her head, trying to put Kallie at ease.
“Relax. We mean no harm. If we did, you wouldn’t be standing here, safe and sound.”
Kallie acknowledged the logic in the servant’s words. If they had any ill intentions toward her, they could have easily drugged her coffee. Instead, they were having a conversation with her. Considering she had entered their property, it seemed only right to meet the owner and express her thanks personally.
Kallie nodded in agreement.
The servant promptly led the way.
The two of them walked out of the mansion to a small room set in the garden.
The servant knocked on the door.
Someone immediately opened it, motioning for Kallie to come in.
Kallie paused, taking a peek inside. It was dimly lit, and candles flickered softly in the shadows. She was confused. Why would someone set up a meeting here?
As Kallie stood unsure, the servant moved aside, giving her a clearer view.
