Chapter 237:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Rick Snyder gave me a fake smile. “Sonny is our most patient apprentice. He’ll take good care of you.” Then he turned to greet a woman dripping with jewels.
I watched Rick’s back, feeling nothing. I’d met plenty of people who judged by appearances in my past life.
Sonny nervously wrung his hands as he approached me.
“Hello, ma’am. I’m Sonny Sawyer. I’m sorry, Rick, he—”
I cut him off with a smile. “It’s fine, Mr. Sawyer. I trust your professional abilities. Now, can you show me the properties that meet my requirements?”
My kindness and respect seemed to surprise him, and he relaxed a little.
He nodded vigorously, a spark of hope returning to his eyes. “Of course, ma’am! Please, come this way. I have a few very suitable options right here!”
He led me to his small cubicle, where files were piled high like a small mountain, a stark contrast to Rick’s tidy desk.
He fumbled with the magic-index device, pulling up several property files, and began to earnestly present them to me.
His voice trembled with nervousness, but every property he described precisely matched my requirements. He even considered logistical access, something I hadn’t mentioned.

I listened quietly, realizing Rick Snyder had made a huge mistake. He had thrown a real treasure away, treating it like trash, and handed it to this honest apprentice.
I pointed to one of the files. “This one looks good. Can we go see it first?”
Sonny nearly jumped with excitement at my quick decision.
“Of course! Right away!” He immediately started arranging the trip, as if he’d just grabbed a lifeline.
While he was arranging for a carriage, I could feel the pitying or amused glances from the other brokers in the office. They all thought Rick had just dumped an impossible, time-wasting, poor client on the unlucky apprentice.
I took the glass of water Sonny offered me, a faint smile touching my lips.
The game was just beginning.
Haven Kramer POV
Sonny Sawyer quickly rented a modest carriage, a stark contrast to the luxurious vehicles belonging to the other brokers parked at the entrance.
He opened the door for me, a little embarrassed. “I’m sorry, ma’am. The company carriages need to be booked in advance. I could only rent this one on short notice.”
I shook my head to show I didn’t mind and got in. The carriage was small, but he had wiped it clean, and there was a small bottle of water in the corner.
The carriage started, moving through the bustling city towards the outskirts. Sonny nervously pointed out the regional planning along the way, trying to showcase his professionalism, but I could see the anxiety in his heart.
I started asking him questions about his apprenticeship to ease his tension. From his words, I learned he had been an apprentice for almost a year but hadn’t closed a single deal because he wasn’t good at “stealing clients.” If he didn’t make a sale in the next three months, he would be fired.
