Chapter 260:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Haven Kramer POV
I struggled for a moment, but his arms were like iron. I was completely enveloped by his scent, a storm of rage and fear. I couldn’t move.
He buried his face in the curve of my neck. I could feel his ragged breathing against my skin. “Why did you hide it from me?” he whispered, his voice hoarse and trembling.
It wasn’t an accusation. It was a plea, laced with a deep, raw hurt.
I stopped fighting, my body rigid. I didn’t know how to answer.
He held me tighter, as if trying to merge me with his own body. “Haven, do you have any idea what I wanted to do when I read the word ‘kidnapping’ in Jett’s report?”
He lifted his head, his ice-blue eyes a swirling vortex of darkness. “I wanted to kill them. I wanted to raze the Kramer estate to the ground. I wanted every single person connected to this to burn in agony.”
A chill ran down my spine. I knew he meant it.

He stared at me, his voice a low, intense growl. “But I couldn’t. Because I knew it was your prey. Your revenge. And I knew if I interfered, you would be unhappy.”
I looked at him, stunned. He had even considered that.
His gaze softened, revealing a vulnerability I had never seen before. “But you cannot do this to me again, Haven. You cannot shut me out of your dangers. You cannot let me find out like a fool, through a subordinate’s report, that my mate was in peril.”
“You healed my body,” he said, his words a blade that slid straight into my heart, “but you are killing my soul this way.”
In that moment, my defenses crumbled. All this time, I had treated him as a dangerous ally, someone to be wary of. I had forgotten that he was also my mate. A person who would worry for me, who would feel pain when I was hurt.
The anguish in his eyes was not an act. My own eyes began to sting.
“I’m sorry, Demetri,” I whispered. “I’m just used to handling everything myself.”
He reached up, his thumb gently brushing away a tear I didn’t know had fallen. His touch was impossibly gentle, a stark contrast to the violence of his embrace moments before. “From now on, you will get used to having me.”
He cupped my face, forcing me to meet his gaze. “I need your honesty, Haven. All of it. Your plans, your past, your fears. I need to know everything.”
His tone was not a request. It was a gentle command, a chain woven from sincerity and raw emotion.
I knew we were at a crossroads. If I continued to hide parts of myself, we would never be more than allies of convenience. But if I chose to trust him…
I thought of the vow he had made to me, of everything he had done to protect me.
I made my decision. Taking a deep breath, I said, “Alright. What do you want to know?”
A flicker of relief crossed his eyes. He didn’t press immediately. He just adjusted his hold, settling me more comfortably in his lap.
And so I began to talk. I told him about my Healer’s Talent, describing it as an innate gift that allowed me to see the inner structures and energy flows of living things.
