Chapter 626:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She wasn’t sure what fallout her confession would bring—but she felt obligated to reveal the truth after overhearing Dr. Martel and Helga talking earlier.
Enoch had been furious. He believed Helga had made a mistake by keeping the truth hidden at such a critical moment. Because Nicole was Jasper’s family. And if the truth stayed buried—if Jasper ended up believing Felicia’s lies—the consequences would be catastrophic. Only today had Veda learned the full extent of Jasper’s injuries. And that Felicia had been the one truly at fault.
Veda had once misjudged Nicole. But now, she needed to make it right.
She couldn’t stay silent anymore.

Nicole narrowed her eyes. “How do you know all this?”
Veda met her gaze. “I’m a nurse. I notice things. That night, I discovered you didn’t give Mr. Powell a transfusion. I sensed something was off. At first, I thought maybe you had feelings for him and were trying to manipulate the situation, to make him grateful to you. But then you asked me to keep it secret… and when I overheard Dr. Martel earlier, it all clicked. There’s only one explanation.”
Nicole studied her, and in that moment, she understood how someone from Ariosa had become a head nurse in a prestigious hospital in Tachary. Veda was sharp. Observant. Discerning. Qualities any hospital would value.
“I was afraid Mr. Powell might believe Felicia and turn against you,” Veda admitted. “I couldn’t let that happen.”
After speaking, Veda felt a wave of tension grip her. She wasn’t sure how Nicole would respond. She didn’t want to see siblings turned against each other.
The atmosphere grew heavy, the air thick with unspoken thoughts.
Veda glanced at Jasper. His gaze was deep and unreadable, revealing nothing. Nicole, meanwhile, seemed caught in a quiet storm of contemplation.
“Don’t worry,” Veda said, trying to ease the silence. “I know what should and shouldn’t be said. I won’t mention this to anyone else.” She had no interest in getting involved in the feuds of powerful families—where one wrong step could cost her everything.
Nicole narrowed her eyes slightly, her lips pressing into a firm line. “Leave. And remember what you just said.”
Veda nodded quickly and turned to go.
Nicole watched her retreat, noting the subtle tension in Veda’s posture. Despite her earlier cooperation with Felicia, Nicole had to admit—Veda was a capable nurse. She had noticed the absence of a blood transfusion and kept it quiet, showing discretion.
And now, by stepping forward despite the risks, she had helped turn the tide against Felicia. She had also validated Jasper’s suspicions. Nicole’s lips parted slightly, her voice quiet. “Thank you.”
Veda had just reached the door when she heard those words. She paused, turning back in surprise. Nicole’s usually sharp eyes held a touch of sincerity.
For a moment, Veda was stunned. Her heart skipped unexpectedly. Then she offered a polite smile, nodded, and slipped out.
Jasper understood exactly what Veda had done—and silently appreciated how she’d helped clear Nicole’s name. Though her words had helped, he hadn’t needed them to believe Nicole.
