Chapter 630:

He blinked, and for a moment, fear flickered in his eyes. After a pause, he finally said, “I didn’t mean to miss your calls. It wasn’t on purpose.”
Nicole stood frozen.
“My phone’s broken. It’s useless now,” he added, holding out the damaged device.
Seeing this, a sharp ache gripped Nicole’s chest. She reached out and wrapped her hand around his cold fingers, her voice soft but edged with gentle reproach. “Why didn’t you knock on the door?”
Aidan remained silent. Instead, he squeezed her hand tighter.
Nicole sighed inwardly, questioning why she even tried to reason with Aidy. He likely had no memory of how he had gotten there.
She pressed her palm against his, hoping to warm his hand. Her heart eased slightly, relieved that he hadn’t fallen into any serious trouble. “Come on,” she said, helping him to his feet. “Let’s get you inside and into a warm shower. You’ll catch a cold out here like this.”

Once they entered the room, Nicole closed the door behind them and instinctively released his hand as she moved toward the bathroom. Suddenly, Aidan stepped close and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
Nicole froze. Even through their clothes, she could feel the strength of his muscles. Her breath caught, and she dared not move.
Though Aidy’s personality behaved like a young child, he was still a grown man, fully matured.
For a long moment, she remained still before whispering softly, “Aidy, I’m just about to…”
Before she could finish, he cut in, “Don’t leave Aidy alone, Nikki.” His voice was deep and undeniably alluring, but the way he stretched out the final word gave it a vulnerable, almost pleading quality.
A pang struck Nicole’s heart as memories of her talk with Leonel at the hospital resurfaced.
Could Aidan’s maternal grandmother be the reason his alternate personality emerged? If that was true, how much suffering must he have endured during his childhood?
Aidan’s grip tightened, drawing her nearer. Time seemed to slow as the warmth of his damp shirt pressed against her back.
Her lips parted slightly as she murmured soothingly, “I’m not going anywhere.”
He buried his face in the curve of her neck, his words muffled and trembling. “I’m scared of the dark… and being completely alone.”
Nicole attempted to turn around, but his hold was firm and unyielding, preventing any movement.
“All right, I’ll stay with you, Aidy.”
His grip eased just a little, and in a soft voice, he asked, “Nikki… will you ever leave me?”
His tone was rough and heartbreakingly fragile.
Nicole frowned, caught off guard and unsure how to reply. She could not remain in the Moore family forever. This marriage had only been her escape from the Wilson family. That was all. One day, she would walk away from Aidan. And if he ever discovered her past, he would not want someone like her beside him. Thinking of this, she gently stroked his hand. “Aidy, one day we will live separate lives. You’ll understand.”
At her words, Aidan loosened his hold.
