Chapter 1680:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Dexter had already put some distance between them. Hearing her cry, he looked back with a frown, only to see Doreen crouching on the ground, rubbing her ankle. He made no move to help her.
After a moment, he said indifferently, “Tell me the restaurant address. You should take care of your ankle first. I’ll go ahead.”
“No need, I’m fine,” Doreen quickly refused, trying to stand despite the pain. “I just sprained it a little because I was rushing. It’s nothing.”
Doreen gritted her teeth and forced herself to take a few steps, determined to prove she was fine. But with each step, a sharp pain shot through her ankle, like needles mercilessly stabbing her with every movement. Tears pricked her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away, refusing to let them fall.
Dexter’s frown deepened as he watched her futile effort. With a sigh, he walked over to her, his tone firm but calm as he said, “Stop being stubborn. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
A surge of unexpected joy warmed Doreen at his concern, but the thought of Stella’s lunch quickly dampened her excitement. Just as she was about to protest, her phone buzzed. Stella’s voice came through the line, cheerful but practical. She mentioned that she’d be staying in the office for lunch since she needed to visit Prosperity Group in the afternoon. Stella suggested that she and Dexter eat together.
Dexter overheard the conversation, and as soon as Doreen hung up, he stepped forward without a word. His hand supported her gently but securely as he guided her toward the hospital. By afternoon, sunlight streamed through the glass facade of the Prosperity Group building, casting a golden glow across the floor. The warm light reflected the vibrancy of the bustling city outside.
Stella arrived right on time, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor of the lobby. She spotted Fernando waiting for her by the elevators.
“Mrs. Clark,” Fernando greeted warmly, “I’ve been waiting here for a little while. Mr. Clark instructed me to escort you up using the private elevator.”
Stella frowned slightly and shook her head, politely declining. “No, thank you. I’m here as a client today, so it wouldn’t be appropriate to use the CEO’s private elevator.”

With that, she pressed the button for the regular elevator, her demeanor calm and composed.
Fernando hesitated for a moment before reluctantly following her. His mind raced with unease as he walked behind her, secretly speculating whether Stella and Matthew had had a disagreement.
If Stella were to discover that the commercial space she had set her sights on had been handed over to Lindsay by Matthew, things could escalate quickly. The thought made his head ache. He inwardly sighed, lamenting the potential trouble brewing beneath the surface.
The elevator doors opened soon. Fernando had originally wanted to arrange for Stella and Matthew to bump into each other “by chance,” but with things unfolding this way, he wasn’t ready to make any decisions alone. So, he guided Stella into a nearby conference room.
He said to Stella, “Mrs. Clark, please stay here for a while. I’ll grab the contract for you.”
Stella gave a simple nod, signaling her understanding.
Fernando, thinking Stella might need something to drink while she waited, suggested, “Mrs. Clark, I can get you a glass of water.”
