Chapter 748:

Once Katherine finished, she fed her little girl.
Lila and Effie quietly stepped out of the room to give her privacy.
Effie, as she softly closed the door, exhaled.
“Motherhood changes everything. One moment she’s just Katherine, the next—she’s radiating love from every pore. It’s almost magical.”
Lila tilted her head.
“You’re absolutely right.”

Suddenly, Effie perked up.
“Hey, let me see the rest of the names. Are you sure you didn’t rig it? How did she just happen to draw Jillian? It’s too uncanny.”
Lila didn’t resist. She let Effie peek inside—there was no foul play.
Still, curiosity bubbled.
“Julian still doesn’t know about the baby, right?”
Since Colten’s return, Julian had faded into the background. Though Katherine had purchased a house on the outskirts and occasionally visited her company, she never ran into him.
Effie confirmed,
“He’s in the dark. She plans to delay registering the child officially for a couple of months.”
Even if Julian learned of the birth later, he wouldn’t connect the dots.
“But the baby’s features…” Lila hesitated. “She mirrors Julian so closely. If anyone from his family catches a glimpse…”
Effie scoffed.
“Katherine has that covered. She’s well-prepared.”
Colten showed up unannounced, bearing luxury gifts for the mother.
The moment he laid eyes on Jillian, a strange emotion stirred in him. He cradled her, unable to part with her warmth.
There were shadows of Julian in her face—perhaps even a bit of himself.
Katherine leaned silently against the pillows, studying him. She recognized the longing, but she was past the phase of chasing love. Her focus had shifted—to ambition, to security, to her daughter.
“You’ve come just in time. There’s something important we need to talk about.”
Colten exhaled.
“You should be resting. Let me worry about the business.”
“It’s not about the firm.”
Lately, every conversation revolved around work, and he had grown…
Accustomed to it, Katherine clarified,
“This concerns Jillian.”
He blinked, surprised—and slightly touched.
“What’s on your mind?”
“She’ll be here until it’s time to begin school. A few years, yes—but still. I’m uneasy. If anyone from the Nash bloodline learns of her… we’ll need your help.”
Colten didn’t miss a beat.
“Say no more. I’ve got it.”
Katherine added,
“You don’t even know what I’m asking.”
“If anyone inquires, I’ll claim her as mine,” he said plainly, confidently. “That’s what you were about to ask, right?”
Katherine gave a quiet nod.
“If you get involved with someone,” he said, a little stiffly, “let me know, and I’ll take her overseas early.”
Rocking the child gently, he added,
“Other than you, I don’t plan to be with anyone else.”
Katherine placed her hand on his, stilling the motion.
“You’ll upset her stomach.”
She didn’t answer the implied emotion—and Colten understood the unspoken message. He gave a soft smile and changed the subject.
“I’ve contacted a postpartum care center in Windmere. It has a great sea view, and your stay will be peaceful and healing. I’ve arranged a medical team too. We can leave today.”
