Chapter 753:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She really did love this child. Was it because she had carried and delivered her? Or because the father was Colten?
Julian’s face stayed composed, but his mind was anything but. His thoughts were a tangled mess, pressing down on him like a weight.
The unmoving traffic only made it worse. He slammed the horn out of sheer irritation.
The sharp blare made Jillian burst into tears.
Katherine hushed her gently, cradling the baby close. Meanwhile, Julian noticed fresh red spots blooming beneath her clothes again, and his hands clenched tighter around the steering wheel.
He snapped,
“Make her stop. That crying is driving me insane.”
Katherine felt anger rising in her chest. He was the one who had insisted on ending things. They had parted peacefully. Even if he didn’t want to help, did he really have to make it worse?
Yes, she owed him for saving her earlier, but locking her in, speaking to her like this—what exactly was he trying to accomplish?
Keeping her voice level, she said,
𝗔𝖽𝗱𝗂c𝗍𝗶𝘃𝖾 𝗻ov𝘦𝘭ѕ 𝘰ո 𝗀𝖺lո𝗼𝘷𝘦ls.𝗰𝘰𝘮
“Pull over at the next open spot. I’ll borrow someone’s phone and call for a ride.”
Julian clicked the lock open.
“Then get out now.”
Katherine said nothing.
She glanced outside. The road was packed with honking cars, no gaps between them. Drivers were impatiently inching forward any chance they got. How was she supposed to get out, holding a baby?
Before she could decide, the locks clicked again.
“If you’re not going to leave, stop pretending you will.”
Katherine parted her lips to reply, but shut them just as fast. There was no use wasting energy on anger.
Money had its limits, and she was starting to see them clearly. No amount of wealth could touch Julian. Not even if she were the richest person alive.
Jillian continued to cry.
No matter how Katherine rocked or patted, nothing helped. That was when it hit her—too much time had passed since the last feeding.
Jillian must be hungry.
She cast a brief glance toward the front seat, then quietly rolled down the partition between them.
Julian’s brow creased.
The soft sound of shifting fabric followed. Moments later, the baby’s cries faded into quiet whimpers, and then, silence.
A quiet gulping sound filtered through, unfamiliar and oddly sharp to Julian’s ears.
The moment he understood what Katherine was doing, something shifted in his eyes—dark, unreadable, and intense.
Back when they were preparing for the baby, breastfeeding had never even entered the plan.
He hadn’t imagined Katherine would commit to something like that—especially not a year later.
A strange pressure settled in his chest, a heaviness he couldn’t shake. No matter how hard he tried to focus elsewhere, her image kept surfacing—along with the faint scent drifting through the air, subtle and haunting.
The traffic remained at a crawl for what felt like forever.
Inside the vehicle, Katherine’s scent lingered stubbornly. Trying to dispel it, Julian rolled the window down.
But the breeze didn’t help.
Rather, it made his throat feel parched and raw.
Eventually, he steered the car toward the villa they once shared during their marriage.
