Chapter 1158:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
A long red carpet stretched out in front of the newly renovated building in the heart of Cambridge’s central business district, security officers lining either side of the walkway. Reporters crowded behind the barriers, their cameras flashing without pause, the rapid-fire click of shutters filling the air with bright, staccato bursts of light.
Today was the official opening ceremony of the June Erickson Neuroscience Foundation.
The event had drawn some of the biggest names in the field — deans and leading researchers from Stanford, MIT, and the National Institutes of Health seated in the front row. Even the federal senators who had once done everything in their power to derail the project sat among the audience, smiling politely for the cameras, eager to associate themselves with the woman who had become the brightest name in American biomedical research.
June stood at the podium in a sharp, perfectly tailored white suit, the snowflake necklace at her throat catching the afternoon sun. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek low bun, her posture relaxed and confident, her expression unshakable and bright.
Easton sat in the center of the front row, his gaze fixed on her as she spoke, his face alight with a pride he made no effort to conceal.
“Six months ago, in this very city, I was told that my research belonged to the federal government. That it belonged to the men who held the power.” Her voice carried through the speakers, clear and steady and strong, ringing out across the gathered crowd. “I was told that my career, my path in life, would be decided by men who had never set foot in a laboratory a day in their lives. I was told that I was a prize to be won, an asset to be managed.”
A hush fell over the crowd. Every person was still, listening, the only sound her voice carried on the wind.
“Today, I stand here to tell you that none of those things are true. In science, the only thing that matters is the science itself — the truth itself. And in my life, the only person who gets to decide where I go, what I do, and who I am is me.”

She paused, letting the words settle before continuing.
“This foundation was built to live by that promise. We will fund meaningful, life-changing neuroscience research. We will provide funding, a platform, and a safe and undisturbed space for female researchers who have the passion and the skill to change the world, but lack the connections and resources to get their work off the ground. We will return science to the scientists. We will put the control of research back into the hands of the people who do the work.”
The moment she finished, the crowd erupted. Thunderous applause echoed through the square, unrelenting and deafening. The young female researchers in the audience clapped until their hands were red, their eyes bright with tears and hope.
June smiled through the applause, her gaze finding Easton in the front row — a soft, warm smile, just for him.
