Chapter 505:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
When Sara returned from Elton Villa, it was already past ten o’clock at night.
As soon as she entered the house, she saw Leo waiting for her in the living room.
Leo greeted her warmly, “Why are you back so late?”.
“I’m worried about Juliet.”
Sara walked slowly to his side and sat down.
She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes slowly, she looked tired.
The room was so quiet that only the ticking of the old-fashioned clock could be heard. Leo put his arm around her shoulder, rubbing it gently.
After a long while, she asked, “Leo, how’s the investigation going?”
Leo remained silent and did not answer her immediately.

After a while, Sara opened her eyes and stared at his angular face. She frowned slightly, “Is anything wrong?”
Leo said quietly, “Yes.”
And there was no more to follow.
Sara frowned even more. She sat up and asked anxiously, “Leo, what’s wrong? Mr. Elton didn’t take bribes, did he?”.
“Yes. He’s innocent.” Leo nodded.
“I knew it.” Sara heaved a long sigh of relief, but soon realized something was wrong. “So, what about the money found at Juliet’s house?”
Leo pondered for a moment before saying, “Someone set him up.”
“Framed him?” Sara paused and asked unconsciously, “Who?”
“My father.”
Sara’s pupils slowly dilated. This answer seemed unexpected, but it wasn’t a surprise either.
“Why would he do that?” Sara was in confusion, unable to react to why Benson had done this.
“Because of Payton.”
“Payton? Did he really want to hurt Payton?” Sara’s voice rose in shock.
Last time at the Lu mansion, Benson had warned them that he would make moves on Payton, but she hadn’t expected him to.
Sara was shocked. As a parent, how could he hurt his son?
“What should we do now?” Sara thought about what had happened to Mr. Elton. It could all fall on her. She was so sorry for the Eltons. She was the one who had dragged them into this.
“I’ll take care of it.”
His pithy words gave Sara great peace of mind. Since he was saying it, he would work it out.
Sara thought for a moment, then asked, “Does Payton know? Does he know your father did it?”
“Not yet.” Leo didn’t want his little brother to know. Payton wasn’t supposed to suffer for it, so Leo didn’t tell him.
He broached the idea to Sara, and Sara nodded her head. “That’s good, so he won’t have to worry too much. Otherwise, I’d feel even more indebted to him.”
“You don’t have to feel indebted to him. I owe it to you.” Leo gently stroked her cheek. His gaze was filled with a trace of guilt.
“I shouldn’t have let this happen to you.”
Sara smiled weakly and reached up to cover his hand. She rubbed her cheek against his warm palm and whispered,
“Whatever happens, I’ll be happy to be with you.”
His heart melted with sweetness.
He couldn’t help but pull her into his arms and rested his chin on her head. He told her firmly, “Sara, it will all be over.”
Sara clung to his back tightly and buried her face in his arms, listening to his heartbeat, steady and powerful.
She slowly closed her eyes and softly opened her red lips, “Yes, it will all end.”
Maddox’s attitude was still as firm as ever, which made Old Master Shen feel worried and angry.
He thought Maddox would at least compromise for him for the sake of his illness, but this was not the case. This angered him and broke his heart.
In that brat’s heart, that Yayoi was completely more important than he was.
Wendy saw that the old man had been upset for a few days.
She knew it was because of Maddox and took the initiative to look for Maddox.
When she saw Maddox and Yayoi come out of the TEG building, her eyes darkened a little.
Upon seeing her, Maddox and Yayoi stopped at the same time.
Wendy walked up and said, “Maddox, do you have a few minutes to talk to me?”
Maddox turned his head to look at Yayoi and denied, “I don’t have any.”
Yayoi knew that Wendy had come to Maddox for Old Master Shen’s sake, so she said to Maddox, “Maddox, you two talk. I’ll wait for you in the car.”
After saying that, he nodded to Yayoi and headed towards the parking lot.
“Okay. Be careful.” shouted Maddox.
Yayoi turned around and smiled at him, “I know.”
After Yayoi left, Maddox shoved his hands in his pockets and looked at Wendy casually, “Okay. What’s wrong?”.
Wendy was hurt by his attitude, but managed to sketch a faint smile. “Your grandfather hasn’t eaten properly for days.”
Maddox frowned lightly and smirked.
“It’s his own body. If he doesn’t take care of his health, there’s nothing I can do about it.”
His attitude was completely indifferent, not showing the slightest concern for his grandfather’s health.
This angered Wendy a little, “Maddox, he’s your grandfather, not someone else.”
Maddox scoffed, “Yes, he is my grandfather. But to force his grandson to keep his damn promise, he didn’t hesitate to pretend to be sick and cheat me. Don’t you think I should be angry?”.
“Maddox, Grandpa is doing it for your own good,” Wendy argued with no real conviction in her voice.
She hadn’t expected Grandpa to realize that she was pretending to be sick.
This caused her plan to abort before it succeeded.
And at the same time, it infuriated Maddox.
“For my own good?” Maddox raised his eyebrows and his eyes filled with ridicule, “Don’t say it so nicely. This is clearly to satisfy your selfishness.”
At his accusation, Wendy clenched her hands tightly and remained silent for a long time before saying quietly, “Maddox, I’m sorry.”
Maddox looked at her coldly and said, “Wendy, I don’t love you. If you still take me for your big brother, please explain it clearly to Grandpa. Stop it now. Otherwise, it won’t be good for both of us.”
“I’m not willing to accept it. I love you Maddox, why didn’t you give me a chance?”.
“Wendy, love doesn’t come from just having a chance. I love Yayoi. She’s the only one in my life, so…. I’m sorry.”
Wendy stared at his handsome face.
Her vision was blurring little by little.
Through her tears, she thought she saw the boy who then smiled kindly at her.
“Wendy, welcome to my family. I am your brother, Maddox Shen.”
Time flew. He was no longer the big brother who always took care of her, and she was no longer the little girl who was just…secretly in love with him.
She had loved him so much but got no response.
The pain almost tore her apart.
She slowly turned around and straightened her body. Lowering her gaze, she slowly walked away with a proud posture.
