Chapter 249:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
My eyes land on the drill, and I smile. I pick it up and walk back to Lex. His head is bent down, but when he hears the sound of the drill, his head jerks up immediately.
“No, no, please, no,” he begs, his voice trembling with fear.
“That’s the same way you begged me,” I say, my voice low but resolute. “But you didn’t listen. So, why should I listen to you?” I ask, though I really don’t care about his answer.
I take his hand, aiming the drill for the center of his palm before pressing it against his skin. Lex starts screaming as the drill goes through his hand. I can hear his bones crunching and blood splattering on my face, but I don’t care.
“There, now we’re even,” I say, tossing the drill to the floor as I step back.
“So now you’ll let me go?” He asks, hope flickering in his eyes.
I don’t answer. I turn to Leo and simply nod. He understands immediately. He walks up to Lex, his expression cold. “You should’ve never come for her,” he says, then punches his hand into Lex’s chest and rips out his heart.
I exhale a huge sigh of relief, feeling a weight I didn’t even know was there lift off my shoulders. It’s finally over.
Leo drops the heart on the floor and walks over to me, wrapping his arms around me. “It’s over now, mia cara. He’s gone,” he tells me.
I stay in his arms, breathing in his scent. “Thank you for convincing me to do this. I needed it,” I whisper, pulling back to kiss him.
“As much as I’d love to take you right now, I’d rather we didn’t do it with a dead body in the room,” Leo says with a smile against my lips.
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” I reply.
I take his hand. “Let’s go. We’re finished here,” I tell him, and together we walk out of the prison.
When we arrive home, the house is empty, but Zeo has left a note saying they went into town to get supplies for our trip back home tomorrow. They’ll be back soon.
Leo and I take a shower together to wash away the blood, then throw our clothes in the garbage and change into fresh outfits. We lie down on the bed, cuddling each other.

“Is it wrong that I just want us to stay here like this forever?” I ask.
“No, it’s not,” Leo replies. “It’s because, right here in this moment, we’re happy. There’s nothing else going on, and no one trying to tear us apart. But we have to get home to our kids.”
“Yes, exactly. It’s like our own little bubble. But you’re right, I miss them so much,” I say.
“But sooner rather than later, we’ll have to leave that bubble,” Leo adds softly.
“Yes, I know. So, what happens when we get home?” I ask him, dreading this conversation, but it’s finally time.
“What do you mean?” he asks.
“Like logistics. That’s what I mean,” I tell him.
“Well, when we get home, the first thing on the agenda is moving you and the kids into the house. Zoey can come if she wants, or we can give her and Zeo the house in the woods—they need their privacy,” he says.
“Is that all?” I ask.
“Well, I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I need you to know this: before the mother runs out, you will be Dr. Knight, and you will be my Luna,” he tells me.
“I like that plan,” I say.
