ESTEFAN’S POV
“Estefan,” Rhea yelled from inside the room, and I glanced at Mrs. Dutchman, who was standing with me in the kitchen. I left the pan on the burning stove and ran to the room.
“What’s wrong?” I stepped into the room to see Rhea standing with her legs apart in front of the closet.
“My water broke.” Her eyes widened as she stared at the water on the ground.
“Okay, no need to panic,” I said, but I was the one panicking because I had no idea what to do.
“She’ll go into labor soon, we need to get her to the hospital,” Mrs. Dutchman walked past me, who was standing at the entrance, looking confused.
I shook my head and got myself together before moving closer to Rhea. She placed one hand on her huge baby bump while I held the other hand and supported her back with my other arm as we walked out of the room.

“Fuck!” She cried out and squeezed the hand I was holding. “That hurts.”
“I’m so sorry,” I caressed her back as she kept walking. “We need to hurry, the baby is coming.” Mrs. Dutchman urged, walking ahead of us.
We reached the stairs, and I used all my strength to lift her before descending to the living room. I placed her down, and we made our way outside.
“Oh my God, it’s getting more painful.” She grabbed my shirt as she was about to get into the car.
“You’ll be fine, honey. We’ll get to the hospital in no time,” I rubbed her back.
She let out a long breath before sitting down in the back seat of the car. I closed the door after her and ran to the other side to get into the back seat.
Mrs. Dutchman took the passenger seat, and the driver sped out of the compound.
“It’s coming again,” she cried out as she grabbed my hand.
I pulled her close to me and whispered, “Just hang in there. You’ll be fine.”
“It hurts.” Tears rolled down her cheeks as she buried her face in my chest.
The driver arrived at the hospital in minutes, and I quickly got out to help Rhea out of the car.
“Estefan, please make it stop,” she yelled as we walked into the hospital. The nurses rushed to us and took her from me.
“Baby, please don’t leave me.” She reached out her hands toward me as she cried in pain.
“I’m not leaving, honey,” I took her hand. “I’m right here.”
Seeing Rhea in so much pain made me rethink my thoughts about having more kids. It was unbearable to watch her like that and not be able to do anything about it.
I followed to the labor room, but I was told to stay outside while they took her in and collected the baby’s bag from Mrs. Dutchman.
“Honey, I’m right here. You’ll be fine, okay?” I yelled after them.
Running my fingers through my hair, I took out my phone and called my mom. She answered on the first ring.
“Hello, dear, how are you doing?” she asked.
“I’m at the hospital. Rhea is in labor,” I went straight to the point.
“What?!” she exclaimed. “That’s early.”
“I know.”
According to the calculations, she was only 8 months and two weeks along, so no one was expecting her to go into labor yet. I just hoped she and the baby were okay.
“I’m on my way to the hospital,” my mom said.
“Okay, Mom,” I replied, and she hung up.
I paced back and forth in front of the labor room for more than an hour before I noticed Mom walking toward me with Esteban, and Anna was holding their baby boy, Edmund, in her hands.
“Is she still inside?” Mom asked, and I nodded.
“Relax, she’s going to be fine,” Esteban squeezed my shoulders.
“But she was in so much pain.”
“She’s stronger than you think.” He smiled. “The pain is going to be worth it in the end.”
I let out a long breath as my eyes strained at the entrance of the labor room. I wanted to be in there with her and support her all the way, but the doctors wouldn’t let me in.
After waiting outside for more than six hours, the doctor came out of the labor room, and everyone jumped to their feet except Anna, who was feeding her baby.
“Doctor, how is she? Is she okay?” I asked, my heart beating faster than usual, threatening to jump out of my ribcage.
“Congratulations, Your Highness, your wife had twins, a boy and a girl.” He shook my hand, and I stared at him in shock.
Rhea and I decided not to find out the baby’s gender because we wanted it to be a surprise. What I didn’t expect was having two babies at once—twins of both genders.
“Oh my God.” Mom came to hug me. “Congratulations, dear.”
I put my hands over my face and rested my head on her shoulder as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“Come on, bro, you shouldn’t be crying. You should be happy and celebrating.”
I pulled away from Mom and turned to him. “I can’t help it.” I wiped my face with the back of my hand. “I’m so happy I don’t even know how to express it.”
“The nurse will let you see them when they are ready,” the doctor said. “Congratulations once again.”
“Thank you, doctor.” I shook his hand again before he walked away.
I took my phone and called Mr. Knight to give him the good news. I could hear him and his wife celebrating over the phone, and they said they would be coming to Spain very early the following day.
The nurse came to inform us that Rhea had been moved to a private room, and the four of us—five, including Edmund—made our way to her room.
Rhea was sound asleep when we walked in, and we tread quietly to avoid waking her up. Her face looked so tired and stressed as I sat next to her.
I kissed her forehead and whispered to her, “Well done.”
“They are so cute,” Anna cooed as she stared at the babies in a double cot.
I stood up to look at my babies, who were wrapped in pink and blue shawls, respectively. It was a good thing Rhea insisted on getting all the baby’s stuff in both colors. Who knew we would be having twins and needing them both?
Mom picked up the girl and handed her to me. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I held her small frame in my arms and kissed her forehead.
“Daddy and mummy love you so much,” I smiled as she yawned.
I returned her to Mom and took my baby boy from Anna, who passed her baby to Esteban because she didn’t trust him with the newborn.
“Daddy and mummy love you too,” I kissed his forehead. “You should grow up to be a strong man, so you can protect your sister from heartbreakers.”
Everyone laughed at my comment, and Rhea groaned as she stirred in her sleep. We quieted down immediately, but it was too late as her eyes fluttered open.
“Honey,” she called, and I went to sit next to her with our baby boy in my hands.
“Where are my babies?”
“They’re right here.” I placed the baby in my hands beside her, and Mom placed the baby girl next to her brother. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she kissed their foreheads. “They are so cute.”
“Yes, they have my eyes and your hair,” I caressed their heads, one after the other, before leaning down to kiss Rhea’s lips. “You did a great job.”
“Thank you,” she smiled.
“What are you going to name them?” Mom asked.
“I was thinking Elwin and Elara, to go with the family name. What do you think?” I asked Rhea.
“I like it,” she grinned. “How about Ryan and Roxanne for their middle names?”
“Elwin Ryan Borbon-Anjou and Elara Roxanne Borbon-Anjou, that’s beautiful.”
“Just by looking at them, I can tell they’re going to be troublemakers. You guys surely have your work cut out for you because you’re going to be going through double the trouble.” Esteban laughed, and his wife hit him on the back.
We were busy admiring the babies when the room door was pushed open. Doctor Enzo walked in with a big smile on his face.
“Congratulations, Your Highness,” he bowed, but I stood up to shake his hand instead. “I have bigger news that I know everyone has been waiting to hear.”
Everyone paused to listen to what he had to say.
He glanced at all of us before saying with a huge smile on his face, “King Estevan is awake.”
“Oh my God.” Mom placed her hands over her mouth and sank to the ground.
“He has been awake since last night, but we wanted to make sure he was in good condition before we broke the news to you,” he continued. “He spoke a few hours ago and was asking for Prince Estefan.”
I laughed as tears rolled down my cheeks, and Esteban came to pull me into a hug.
“He’s alive,” Esteban sobbed on my shoulder, and I rubbed his back to console him as I tried to stop my own tears.
“Let’s go see him,” Mom rushed out of the room.
I was about to follow behind her, but I stopped to turn to Rhea.
“Don’t worry about me, go see your father,” she motioned for me to leave.
“I’ll stay with her,” Anna offered. “You two go ahead.” Esteban and I ran out of the room to see my dad. He smiled when he laid his eyes on us and opened his arms. We walked into them.
“I’m sorry for making you guys worry,” he cried.
“Don’t be, Dad,” Esteban sobbed.
We told Dad everything that happened while he was in a coma, and Mom called Princess Antonella to give her the good news.
Esmeralda called Mom on video chat just to see Dad when Mom gave her the news about Dad and Rhea. She cried over the phone when she saw Dad.
She also made me take the phone to Rhea’s room so she could see Elwin and Elara.
Rhea and Dad were discharged from the hospital a few days later, but Dad was still receiving treatments from the nurse assigned to him at the palace.
When Dad fully recovered, he decided that he was tired and wanted to abdicate the throne to Esteban. Esteban refused, saying he still had a lot to learn, but Dad commended him for the job he had been doing while he was in a coma.
Dad stood by his decision and instructed me to keep supporting Esteban like I always have. He revealed that his mind would be at rest knowing we were ruling the country together. The official announcement was made, and preparations began for the coronation ceremony of Esteban and Anna.
All our families and friends were invited to the coronation ceremony, which was held the day before Edmund’s first birthday party.
Esteban and Anna officially became the King and Queen of Spain, while Mom and Dad left the palace and began to travel across the country.
Leah and Asher gave birth to a bouncy baby girl a year after their marriage, and Esmeralda chose to remain in London to start her life after completing her university program.
Rhea and I lived peacefully with the twins and our three other children as the Prince and Princess of Spain.
