Chapter 547: (END)
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Later, Derek took me swimming, just the two of us. Megan and Aaron volunteered to watch the kids, which left some time for us.
Derek dove into the pool without hesitation. I couldn’t swim, so I settled for watching him as I soaked my feet in the water. Just then, Felix sent a message to the group chat. He wanted to see pictures of my bikini.
[Well, sure, but you have to pay for it], I replied.
[Make sure you keep your word], Felix replied.
[Of course.] I already knew what I had to do.
After a few seconds, he wired me $88, along with another message insisting that I send the photos immediately. [Hurry up, why don’t you do it, I’ve already paid, where are my pictures?]
I took a bikini out of the bag we had brought, put it on the edge of the pool and took a picture. [Here, my bikini. Isn’t it pretty? My husband picked it out for me.]
Felix was quiet for a while, and I imagined him gawking at the photo I had sent him. [Very nice], he texted after a while.
The rest of the group sent stickers laughing, making fun of him for having been fooled. He had meant he wanted to see me in a bikini, but I purposely twisted his words.
Derek swam over to me and asked why I was laughing. I showed him my phone and he joined in the laughter too.
I barely had time to put the phone away when he suddenly threw me into the water. I sputtered and flailed, which forced him to hold me up so I wouldn’t drown.
“I can’t swim!” I screamed.
Derek lifted my chin and smiled. “It’s a basic survival skill. You need to learn it. Come on, I’ll teach you how to swim.”
Agreed. This made a lot of sense, and I trusted him implicitly.
I decided then to learn to swim. I realized too late that my swim coach saw this as an opportunity to take advantage of me. Still, Derek was an excellent teacher.
I quickly learned to swim on my own. He chased me and we ended up playing big fish and little fish.

As expected, the big fish ended up catching the little fish and devouring it.
Derek cornered me by the pool and started kissing me passionately. I pressed myself against his chest, embarrassed by our public display.
“Stop, there are more people here.” Derek let out a frustrated sigh.
“We have two hyperactive kids at home and now that we’re alone, you’re worried about everyone else? At this rate, I might die from so many pent up desires.”
My heart skipped a beat when the word “die” came out of his mouth. I instinctively pressed my palm against his lips, which he, of course, licked.
His eyes glittered devilishly. “Huh?” I saw a small fish tattooed on his chest. I didn’t remember seeing it before.
Derek pulled my hand away from his mouth and placed it over the tattoo. I could feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat against my skin.
“You have a fish tattooed on your chest too. This fish is you. I wanted to put you somewhere close to my heart,” he whispered.
I got so excited that I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him without a second thought, ignoring everyone around us. We kissed in the water, splashing and laughing in our own little world.
After a while, we sat on the edge of the pool. He had his arm around my shoulders and I had my head resting on him. My mind wandered back to the past and I couldn’t help but sigh.
“You know what? I was like a fish out of water once, waiting for death.” Derek chuckled. “Would that make me a dark cloud, then? I saved you by bringing the pouring rain, didn’t I.”
“Hmm. Promise me you’ll never leave me. Or I’d surely die.”
She pulled away and tapped me on the nose with her finger. “Silly girl. How could I leave you? Only when I have you by my side do I feel alive.”
I felt a lump in my throat and my vision became suspiciously blurry. I sniffed. We looked into each other’s eyes as the sun set behind us. There and then, nothing existed but our love.
No words could express how much we loved each other. So, in the end, we just kissed in silence.
The day he was discharged, he showed me his new ID card. Derek was gone. His name was now Kyler Sullivan. A new name for a new beginning.
He had been born again. Since then, his life had taken a completely different direction. Derek was a man who gave up everything for the good of the country.
Kyler, on the other hand, was an ordinary man who lived for his family. In my opinion, this was just the beginning of a wonderful life, one that he could live on his own terms, one that he could truly call his own. And he had me in it. He would always have me.
