Chapter 561:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Dayna’s gaze hardened as she watched the sleek black Audi lurking in her rearview mirror, never straying far from their bumper. “Nell, do you see that car? The one that’s been tailing us?”
The morning commute had choked the streets with gridlocked traffic, making it easy to chalk the shadowing up to coincidence. Still, Dayna recalled with sharp clarity that the Audi hadn’t moved until they had pulled out, and it had mirrored every turn through three busy intersections.
“You think we’re being tailed?” Nell’s posture snapped to high alert, her knuckles whitening as she tightened her grip on the wheel. “Want me to lose them?”
A sly glint sparked in Dayna’s eyes as a plan took shape. “Don’t. Let’s see how far they’re willing to go. I want to find out who’s after us.”
“Got it,” Nell replied, flashing an easy “OK” sign as the traffic ahead finally inched forward. Instead of pulling away, she eased her foot off the gas, leaving just enough room for the black car to linger behind them. Even when the light turned yellow and she could have darted through, Nell coasted, letting their shadow stick close.
Dayna, meanwhile, kept her eyes on the mirror, tracking the black car’s every move. By the time they cleared two more intersections, she knew with certainty—they were being tailed.
Nell’s brow furrowed as she steered them onto the next street. “Who would bother tailing us now? Is Declan at it again? Even back when Foster Group was at its peak, a payout like that would have been catastrophic. He must be desperate to wipe that debt clean, no matter the cost.”
“He can try all he wants—there’s no way he’s wiping that debt clean. I won’t rest until the entire Foster family goes under,” Dayna declared, her eyes flicking toward the rearview mirror. “We’ll know who’s behind this as soon as we catch whoever’s tailing us.”
A short drive later, they pulled into the hospital’s underground garage. Nell shut off the engine and climbed out with Henry in tow. The black Audi shadowed them, parking a discreet distance away. Inside, the driver lifted a camera, quickly snapping a series of photos before firing them off to his contact.
But after reviewing the images, he hesitated. There were only two people in the shots. Doubt crept in.
“Where’s the third one—could they still be hiding in the car?” he muttered to himself, suspicion sharpening his tone. He stepped out of the car and was about to walk over to check.
