Chapter 565:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Dayna and Nell exchanged a quiet look, the truth sinking in, and once again, both felt a pang of sympathy for Henry.
He really was a remarkable kid—gentle, thoughtful, wise beyond his years. So many would have given anything to have a child like him, yet fate had made him Madison’s son.
Nell voiced what was on her mind. “Honestly, if Henry hadn’t found his real parents after he recovered, I would’ve considered adopting him myself. But it’s clear Madison has no intention of letting him go.”
“We’ll know soon enough if our suspicions hold up,” Dayna replied, glancing down at her phone.
Their suspicions were about to be proven true.
A moment later, hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway, and Madison—usually the picture of elegance—came rushing in, her hair and clothes slightly messy. The instant she spotted Dayna, her expression twisted as if she had just come face-to-face with a bitter rival.
“Dayna, where’s the Wraith Physician? Isn’t she the one who saves lives from the grip of death? How could a simple procedure not succeed? That’s a human life on the line!”

Madison’s voice was sharp and accusing.
Nell shot her an exasperated glare. “Even the best doctors can’t promise every operation will succeed. Besides, why does this even concern you?”
Madison shot them a look full of malice. “Just tell me where the Wraith Physician is. I need to expose her and let everyone see that her so-called miracles are nothing but exaggerated claims and lies!”
Dayna’s head was pounding from Madison’s outburst. Watching Madison unravel, she couldn’t help but think the woman seemed genuinely shaken by whatever had just happened.
Dayna fixed Madison with a frosty stare as she said, “First of all, there’s no such thing as a guaranteed outcome with surgery, especially not for a child born with a congenital illness. The fact that the Wraith Physician even agreed to operate is something to be grateful for. Second, how did you find out about this boy’s condition and come straight here? And third, what’s your real connection to him? Is he your biological son?”
Henry was already over four years old, which matched up perfectly with the years Madison had spent abroad.
A flicker of panic flashed in Madison’s eyes, her jaw tightening. “Why should I have to explain myself to you? My only concern is holding the Wraith Physician accountable for that botched operation.”
Nell sneered at Madison. “And who exactly do you think you are? You have no relation to the child, so what gives you the right to interrogate his doctor? Get out, Madison. Or I swear, I won’t be so polite next time.”
Dayna spoke up, her tone deliberately slow and cutting. “Even if something did go wrong in the operating room, only the child’s legal guardian can demand answers from the doctor. So, are you his guardian?”
The words struck home. Madison’s mouth opened, the truth nearly tumbling out—I’m his true mother—but she managed to bite it back at the last second. The truth needed to remain hidden.
Her relationship with Declan was already strained to the breaking point. If he learned the truth now, there would be no saving it. If the surgery had succeeded, maybe she would have been brave enough to come clean. But now that it had failed, everything she had built was at risk of unraveling.
Worse still, if anyone figured out her relationship with this boy, everything she had worked for would fall apart. Determined to keep the conversation off track, Madison drew in a steadying breath and changed the subject. “Someone lost their life in the operating room. Doesn’t that mean the surgeon should be held accountable?”
Nell jabbed a finger at Madison, furious. “I’ll say it one more time, you have no right to question anyone here.”
Madison staggered back, hatred flickering in her eyes as she fought to keep her composure. Staring at the sealed doors of the operating room, Madison suddenly lunged forward. “She’s in there, isn’t she? Bring the Wraith Physician out here. I want answers. I want justice!”
Madison’s desperation was plain for all to see. Dayna and Nell exchanged a glance, both understanding exactly what was really at play.
Without hesitation, Nell grabbed a fistful of Madison’s hair and pulled her back. “This is a hospital, not a stage for your drama. Get out, Madison!”
“Let go!” Madison cried out, pain shooting through her scalp.
The next instant, she lashed out, her nails raking across Nell’s cheek. The scene dissolved into chaos as the two women grappled with each other, neither willing to back down.
Nell let out a furious hiss as a scratch appeared on her face. “Did you seriously just scratch my face? You’re going to regret that!”
Madison, equally enraged, snapped back, “You’re all responsible for hurting that child! Don’t think I’ll let you off the hook!”
The scuffle only grew more vicious, with Nell clinging stubbornly to Madison’s hair while Madison landed two more angry scratches on her arm.
Dayna rushed to break them apart. “Enough! Madison, let go.”
