Chapter 990:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
When the night they’d agreed on finally came, Kole put his plan into motion. He managed to disable several cameras in the backyard and knocked out the guard at the rear gate, quickly replacing him with someone he had paid off. He scaled the wall and made it into the greenhouse, hiding in the shadows.
He kept checking his watch. Ten o’clock came and went. Five minutes passed, then ten. Carole was nowhere to be seen. His anxiety spiked as he watched the seconds tick by, his chest tightening with a heavy sense of dread. Terrible scenarios raced through his mind. Had she been caught? Were the guards watching her too closely for her to move?
Just as he decided he couldn’t wait any longer and was about to risk everything to sneak into her bedroom, the greenhouse door creaked open. Carole walked in, barefoot and wearing nothing but a thin silk nightgown. She looked like a ghost drifting toward him through the dark.
Relief washed over Kole, and he rushed to meet her, his voice a low, urgent whisper. “You made it! Did you get your things? The car is waiting just outside the gate. We need to move right now.”
“Kole,” she said, her voice so quiet he could barely make it out. “I… I don’t think I can go.”
Kole stopped dead in his tracks. “What are you talking about?”

Carole looked up at him, and his heart sank. The spark of hope he had seen before was gone, replaced by the same hollow, lifeless stare she’d had in the hospital. She looked completely defeated.
She struggled to get the words out, her voice thick with emotion. “I’m pregnant.”
For a second, it felt like the world stopped. Kole’s mind went completely blank.
“It’s Mike’s,” Carole whispered. “His family is thrilled about it. They’re already talking to my parents about a wedding date. They even promised my family a bigger cut of their business deals because of the baby.”
Kole felt like his heart was being ripped out of his chest, but he forced himself to stay steady. “And what about you, Carole? What do you want?”
Tears pooled in her eyes, and she looked away, her shoulders shaking. “Kole… after everything that’s happened, how could I ever be with you? How could you even want me?”
“Don’t ever say that,” Kole said, his voice firmer than it had ever been. “To me, you are the most precious person in the world. It doesn’t matter who the father is, I’ll raise that child as my own. Once we’re gone, nobody will know the truth, and nobody will care.”
Carole shook her head, looking completely broken. “But I’ll know! Every time I look at that child, I’ll see Mike.”
She looked back at him, her eyes wide and desperate, something inside her finally snapping under the pressure. Suddenly, she grabbed him. “Kole, let’s have sex. Right now.”
Kole stared at her, stunned. “What? What are you saying?”
There was a frantic, wild look in Carole’s eyes now. “If we do it, and I lose the baby because of it, then this whole nightmare is over. The child will be gone, and I won’t have anything holding me back. I can just leave with you and never look back.”
