Chapter 847:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She was undeniably beautiful, yet to him, she felt like a stranger.
It was clear, however, that she had no intention of approaching him. Instead, she made her way to another part of the garden and settled onto a bench, sipping her drink.
“Don’t just stand there,” Yvonne called to the bodyguard. “Sit down.”
“Mrs. Brooks, I can’t sit,” the bodyguard replied. “We’ve been trained strictly, and Mr. Brooks insists we follow rules at all times.”
Yvonne glanced toward Shane, who remained smoking in the distance. She said, “But do sit down; I have something I want to ask you. If you don’t, I’ll feel too awkward to bring it up.”
“Mrs. Brooks, please feel free to ask,” the bodyguard said.
“My request now is for you to take a seat,” Yvonne said.
The bodyguard hesitated but eventually took a seat on the bench opposite her. “Mrs. Brooks, don’t hesitate to ask anything,” the bodyguard said, a hint of formality in his tone.
“I just want to know,” Yvonne began, gesturing toward Shane. “Do you think my husband and I are a good match?”
“Absolutely,” the bodyguard responded without skipping a beat. “You and Mr. Brooks have always had a great relationship. You two are perfect for each other.”
“Really?” Yvonne appeared skeptical. “He comes across as rather cold. Do I strike you as someone who likes to be treated with cold shoulders?”
The bodyguard was momentarily at a loss for words.
“Mrs. Brooks, Mr. Brooks might seem aloof, but he acts differently around you,” the bodyguard explained, trying to smooth things over. “I think he’s just not familiar with you yet, so he might be keeping his distance. Please don’t read too much into it.”

“I’m not offended by this. It’s not like I have any feelings for him anyway,” Yvonne said.
The bodyguard paused, shifting the conversation.
“Mrs. Brooks, I’ve never seen you drink cola before,” he said. “You used to say it was unhealthy and never touched it.”
“Really?” Yvonne sounded surprised. “I just grabbed one randomly. It’s actually quite refreshing.”
“It does taste good,” the bodyguard remarked.
“You picked up the tab earlier, so next time, I will treat you,” Yvonne said.
“You’re too kind, Mrs. Brooks,” the bodyguard replied with a smile.
Their light chatter was abruptly cut off by a deep, gravelly voice. “Yvonne, it’s time for you to head to bed.”
Yvonne turned around to see Shane approaching. She hadn’t noticed him extinguish his cigarette and walk over. The bodyguard quickly stood and greeted him respectfully. “Mr. Brooks.”
“I’m not sleepy,” Yvonne said to Shane.
Shane’s reply was calm yet firm. “Then lower your voice. You’re being too loud.”
Yvonne was caught off guard by his response.
She had thought Shane had come here out of concern for her.
Instead, he was actually complaining about the noise.
Feeling a mix of annoyance and surprise, she retorted, “We’re in a public space. I’m speaking at a normal volume. How can I be too loud?”
Shane’s tone remained indifferent. “If your voice disturbs me, it’s too loud.”
Yvonne was angered by his words. She stood abruptly, her voice rising. “That’s hardly fair!”
“I’m merely stating the facts,” Shane replied coolly.
“You—”
“Mrs. Brooks!” The bodyguard quickly intervened, hoping to defuse the escalating tension. “It’s getting late. Perhaps it’s best if you go back to rest now.”
Yvonne slumped back onto the bench. “I’m not going. What is he going to do about it?”
The bodyguard found himself at a loss for words.
