“Alright,” Millie agreed with a nod, reaching out to rest her hand on his knee. “Does it still hurt?” she asked, thinking of that grueling climb up the mountain.

“It doesn’t,” Myron answered.

“You’re lying,” Millie murmured. She had seen the reports, the images of blood staining the path with every step he took.

Myron tightened his grip around her hand. “I’m telling the truth.”

Millie lifted her gaze to meet his dark eyes. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Back then, he truly hadn’t felt the pain. He had moved like an empty shell, driven by nothing but the desperate hope that she would recover. Compared to that, physical suffering meant nothing. And now, with her by his side, he was too happy and content to feel any pain at all.

Millie understood his unspoken thoughts. Her eyes gleamed with tears as she leaned in and kissed him. He cupped her face, returning the kiss with deep emotion. After a long moment, they slowly pulled apart.

A warm blush spread across Millie’s face. She glanced at the lowered privacy screen, then nestled against his chest. He let out a soft laugh and gently patted her back.

“Millie… I love you,” he murmured, his voice rough.

She lifted her head, met his gaze, and smiled. “Ronnie, I love you too,” she said softly. “We will be happy.”

Myron nodded and held her hand tighter. “Yes. We will always be happy.”
