Chapter 558:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She sat before the camera, poised and sharp, holding herself with the quiet authority of a queen, her presence commanding attention. For two days, Hayley had been buried under an avalanche of public pressure, yet she appeared completely serene. Viewers couldn’t help but be struck by her composure. It was as if the raging storm outside had never touched her.
“I’m posting this video as a warning to everyone who’s been trying to drag me through the mud,” Hayley said, her voice as steady as steel. “Your efforts won’t destroy me. You’re only digging your own graves. As for the truth about the car accident four years ago… I’m just as curious as you are. I’m very much looking forward to your livestream tomorrow. I do hope you’ll surprise me.”
And with that, the video ended.
Emmalyn stared at the blank screen, a cold tremor running through her. Every move, every decision… had Hayley been in control this entire time?
Could Hayley already know? Was this her way of making sure Rowan pinned the murder on her?
а𝗰tі𝗏е 𝗰𝗈𝗺𝘮𝘂𝗻і𝘁𝘺 𝗈𝘯 𝗴𝗮𝗹n𝗼𝘷𝗲𝘭𝗌.𝘤𝗈𝗆
No. Impossible. Rowan couldn’t have been turned. He was at the Bliss Hotel, surrounded by more than a dozen of her bodyguards. There was no way Hayley could have reached him.
It had to be a trick.
“Emmalyn, what do we do? Hayley is terrifying! Maybe we should just back out,” Paula cried, her voice trembling with panic.
“Shut up! Do you really think we can?” Emmalyn’s voice was sharp enough to cut. “I’m in too deep to turn back now. If Hayley actually had a way to use tomorrow’s livestream against us, she never would have released that video. She’s just dropping hints, trying to make us think she’s been one step ahead the whole time. We can’t afford to lose our heads now.”
Emmalyn took a deep breath, speaking as much for herself as for Paula and Karin. That was it. Hayley was arrogant. She’d recorded that video as a direct warning, a bluff designed to scare them into making a mistake.
“Both of you, get out of here and go straight home. Don’t go anywhere else. After tomorrow, this will all be over.”
Once they were gone, Emmalyn immediately headed for the Bliss Hotel. She found Rowan sitting listlessly in his room and finally felt a flicker of relief.
“Rowan.” She smoothed her expression into one of deep sympathy and walked over to him. “This must be so hard on you.”
Rowan looked up, managing a weak smile. “Miss Morgan, you’re here. I understand, you know. You told me Hayley is powerful in Flanmery. You’re keeping me in this room to protect me.”
“I’m so glad you see that.” Emmalyn let out a mournful sigh. “My sister has completely lost her mind. She’ll do anything for power. Tomorrow, all you have to do is tell the truth about what happened. The public pressure will force an official investigation, and they’ll have to reopen the case. Once that monster is back in prison, you and your sister will finally be safe.”
Rowan nodded slowly. “But… is it true? Is my sister really alive?”
