Chapter 1103:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Just this afternoon, Colden had reported again that after Vincent wrapped up a business meeting, he suddenly vanished. He left alone, could not be reached, and his phone went dark.
The moment Vera heard it, fear pushed her into action. She took a team and rushed toward the last location Colden tracked. And to her astonishment, Hannah had kidnapped Vincent.
Now, in the car, Vincent reclined with his eyes shut.
Vera’s earlier unease gradually sharpened into suspicion. The outcome—finding him safely—was satisfactory. But the process felt twisted, as if a piece of the puzzle had been forced into the wrong place. She wanted confirmation.
She gently took Vincent’s hand where it rested on his knee, her voice soft but probing. “Vincent, were you frightened? Has Hannah been pestering you these past days? Did she lose her temper and decide to kidnap you just because you kept ignoring her?”
Vincent slowly opened his eyes. He did not look at her; his gaze settled on the passing streets outside. His reply was faint, barely formed. “Yeah. It’s annoying.”
Vera let out a breath she had been holding. So perhaps she had overthought the situation. His disappearances lately were simply the result of Hannah’s desperate, one-sided pursuit.
Relief eased her shoulders. Her voice warmed. “It won’t happen again. I’ll assign more people to protect you. She won’t get near you again.”
“Mm,” Vincent muttered, uninterested, closing his eyes once more as though drained.
Vera’s spirits lifted when she thought of the approaching wedding. She leaned nearer, enthusiasm returning. “Vincent, the wedding is so close. Why don’t we try on the wedding outfits today? I picked a few beautiful gowns. How about you give me some opinions on them?”
Vincent’s brow tightened, and he responded instinctively, “Maybe another day. I’m not in the right mood today.”

The refusal felt abrupt—different from his past willingness to indulge her. Her smile faltered, and a quiet seed of doubt sprouted again. She studied him carefully. “Vincent, what’s wrong? Are you still upset with me? Or is something weighing on you?”
She reached out to touch his cheek. But just before her fingers brushed his skin, he suddenly turned his head and met her eyes.
In the depths of those dark eyes, a fleeting flash of coldness appeared—so brief that she almost doubted it had existed. Her heart gave a startled tremor.
In the next second, Vincent offered reassurance. “Don’t think too much. After everything Hannah did today, I’m simply tired. She ruined my mood.”
He paused, noticing the lingering suspicion in her expression, and added in a gentler tone, “Tomorrow, I’ll spend the entire day with you. Trying on outfits, finalizing arrangements—whatever you want. All right?”
Vera’s suspicion melted away. Of course—after going through a kidnapping, it was natural for him to be in a terrible mood. Yet he still tried to comfort her. The chip’s instructions were working exactly as intended.
Vera’s expression brightened instantly. Her voice turned sweet. “That’s more like it! Tomorrow, the whole day belongs to me!”
“Okay,” Vincent replied, leaning back and closing his eyes.
