Chapter 1102:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Her words answered Vera’s question. She spoke in an unhurried tone, lips curved with a hint of confidence.
The way Hannah positioned herself instantly fueled Vera’s rage.
Vera suppressed the urge to tear Hannah apart, forcing a cold smile before snapping, “Hannah, you do realize kidnapping my fiancé is a crime? Let him go, right now!”
Not a trace of fear appeared on Hannah’s face as she gradually straightened. Turning her attention away from Vera, she glanced at Vincent, who remained bound to the chair. She lightly lifted his chin once more, her gaze steady on his eyes. “Vincent, I’ll only ask you one more time.” She let the question hang for a moment. “Are you coming with me or not?”
Everyone in the room watched Vincent for his reaction.
Forced to look up, Vincent caught Hannah’s gaze. He understood he had to play along. A deep crease formed between his brows as he shot her a frosty look, his voice firm and unwavering as he declared, “The one I want is Vera.”
His words were meant for Vera’s benefit.
Pretending to be wounded, Hannah’s body trembled visibly. Her hand dropped away from his chin, and she froze in place, looking convincingly shaken.
Vera’s suspicion melted away as she watched Vincent’s reaction and saw how hurt Hannah appeared. It left her feeling satisfied and relieved.
A surge of victory ran through Vera as she strode forward, her voice growing louder, her words heavy with triumph and ridicule. “Hannah, did you hear what he just said? Don’t bother trying anymore! He’s completely devoted to me now, body and soul. To him, you’re nobody. Just a discarded ex-wife!”
As she spoke, she waved at the bodyguards nearby. “Why are you just standing there? Go and untie Mr. Jones!”

Two bodyguards wasted no time stepping forward to free Vincent’s wrists.
Vincent flexed his hands and moved straight toward Vera, saying stiffly, “I’m glad you made it.”
Vera didn’t suspect a thing. Her excitement only grew, and she took his behavior as more proof that he was totally under her control. She quickly stepped forward to hold his arm, deliberately softening her voice in front of Hannah. “I’m sorry for arriving late, Vincent. Don’t worry. I’ll take you home now.”
As she finished, she shot a withering glare in Hannah’s direction. Then she walked out alongside Vincent, matching his pace as they exited together.
Only once they were gone did Hannah finally let out a quiet breath of relief, certain their act had been convincing enough to fool Vera completely.
Vera and Vincent got into the car, which soon slipped into the steady rhythm of traffic.
Vera kept stealing glances at Vincent’s quiet profile, her mind wandering in uneasy circles.
Colden’s recent reports had been unsettling—each one nudging her unease a little deeper. There had been several strange moments lately: brief, unaccounted-for gaps in Vincent’s whereabouts, always following high-level business meetings. Though Vincent offered explanations that sounded reasonable—”I rested for a while; my head hurt,” or “I had a sudden appointment with a concierge doctor”—those excuses never fully soothed Vera.
