Chapter 1123:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Danica panicked under the intensity of Hannah’s gaze and rushed to explain. “Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to interfere. I only wanted to make my position clear. I swear, I won’t meddle in your relationship with Vincent again! What happened before was all my fault. I let Vera fool me, I constantly made things difficult for you, and I hurt you. This time, I almost died at Vera’s hands and nearly caused the Jones Group to change ownership. I honestly, truly regret what I did.”
As she poured her heart out, tears streamed down her face, but she didn’t even try to brush them away. Her words came out raw and choked. “If the Jones Group had fallen into someone else’s hands, I wouldn’t know how to face Vincent’s grandmother or his father after I die… You might not realize it, but I’ve always… always felt guilty toward Vincent’s father.”
Hannah stared at Danica’s tearful face, feeling no pity, only a faint, wry sense of irony. If only Danica had understood this sooner. Her reply was cold and direct. “If you’re looking for forgiveness, you should go to their graves, not bring all this to me.”
“I have, I really have!” Danica replied hastily, wiping her tears with a trembling hand. “I’ve knelt at their graves and poured my heart out. Now I just wish you and Vincent could reconcile, remarry, and find real happiness. I want the chance to care for both of you, to make up for all the wrongs I’ve done.”
Hannah’s tone remained distant. “Danica, after everything you put me through, I simply can’t treat you with warmth or kindness again, much less pretend the past never happened, or just forgive and move on. If there’s nothing else, please go. I have a great deal to do.”
Her words left no room for argument.
Danica’s sobbing stopped abruptly, and despair took over her features. She glanced at Hannah’s calm, unyielding face and realized that saying more would be futile. After everything she had done, forgiveness was too much to ask. The fact that Hannah still addressed her calmly was more mercy than she deserved.
Danica scrubbed at her tears, forcing a shaky smile that looked worse than a frown. “All right… I won’t bother you anymore. If you ever have the time, join us for dinner.”
With that, she gave Hannah one last lingering look before quietly leaving the office.

Hannah rubbed her temples. Maybe there was some truth in Danica’s apology, but no amount of tears or regret could erase the pain of the past. She pressed the intercom button. “Meagan, please come in and get rid of the things on the table.”
“Right away, Ms. Scott.”
Her spirits low, Danica made her way back to the Jones family estate.
The house, once full of life, now felt eerily still.
Since the fallout with Vera, Vincent had rarely set foot in the mansion.
Most days, the only ones inside were Danica herself and a handful of staff who kept the place running.
With little left to occupy her time, she visited her older brother in prison, desperate for some family connection, but he refused to see her.
