Chapter 493:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
A chill ran down Darya’s spine, and a sense of foreboding filled her heart.
She took a step back, trying to remain calm as the group advanced toward her. “Who are you guys?”
“Hah, you may not remember us, but we remember you very well,” the man with the scar sneered. “I never expected to see you again, and in Gavarnia of all places. What a lucky coincidence.”
Darya’s mind raced as she realized what was happening. The man’s attire, the holster, the scar on his face, and the pair of cold-blooded, sinister eyes—this was a mercenary. And there was only one time Darya might have crossed paths with a man like that.
This group who accosted her on the street were the same men she had encountered during the terrorist attack in Bellemore five years ago. She might have shot one or two of them while she was defending an unconscious Micah and dragging him to safety.
Her shots probably resulted in fatalities, which was why the surviving group sought revenge on her. They had orchestrated the car accident on Azure Coast Highway to kill her, but she managed to evade their grasp. Since they never made another attempt on her life, she thought they were long gone, but fate had other plans.
“I was only defending myself,” Darya asserted, scanning her surroundings for an escape route. However, she couldn’t ignore the gun she had spotted in the man’s thigh holster. It was a dangerous situation, and fighting back against an armed assailant seemed like an impossible task.
The man with the scar sneered. “Tell that to my dead comrades.” He drew his weapon, a Glock 19, its barrel aimed straight at Darya’s forehead, less than half a meter away.
Just as panic threatened to overtake her, Micah emerged from a corner, holding a bouquet of roses. He had intended to surprise Darya, but instead, he stumbled upon the imminent danger she faced.
Micah tossed the bouquet aside and sprang into action, launching a flying kick that deflected the bullets just in the nick of time. Darya turned to witness Micah’s valiant effort, his movements embodying the strength of a seasoned soldier. His punches were filled with raw power and determination, a far cry from his usual calm demeanor.

Though Micah had military training, Darya couldn’t stand by and let him face the mercenaries alone. She rushed forward, ready to lend her aid.
The mercenaries, fueled by personal vendettas, were skilled martial artists who showed no mercy in their attacks against Darya and Micah. Concerned for her safety, Micah called out, “Darya, watch out!” With lightning-fast reflexes, Micah noticed a mercenary drawing a pistol and taking aim at Darya.
In a split second, he threw himself in front of her, taking the bullet in his shoulder. Blood splattered on Darya’s face and the fallen roses, creating a vivid tableau of crimson hues that pained her eyes.
“Micah!” Darya cried out, torn between gratitude and a reluctance to owe him once again. With a sense of urgency, she supported him, refusing to let him bear the pain alone.
