Chapter 494:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Micah, his face contorted in agony, gritted his teeth and assured her, “I’m… I’m fine. Just…run!”
The man with the scar raised his gun again, this time aiming at Darya, with Micah serving as an unwitting shield. Mocking them, he said, “What a tragic love story. This woman killed two of our brothers to save your life years ago in Bellemore. Unfortunately, we failed to take her life then…”
Micah stood frozen, his realization dawning upon him—it was truly Darya who had saved him and carried him back to the command center. He longed to turn around and embrace her, to express his gratitude fully. Yet, the gravity of the situation restrained him from acting rashly.
Tension hung in the air as everyone held their breath. The other pedestrians had long scattered, screaming and running for cover.
Suddenly, an alarm blared, startling the mercenaries. They exchanged glances, then quickly holstered their guns and made a swift escape. Despite their merciless reputation, they dared not risk exposure in broad daylight.
As the mercenaries disappeared, Micah’s tensed muscles relaxed, and he leaned against Darya’s body for support, panting. Darya’s initial instinct was to push him away, but Micah pleaded, “Let me lean on you, just for a sec… Please?”
Concern etched on her face, Darya examined the bleeding wound on Micah’s shoulder, her voice tinged with anxiety. “Are you… are you okay?”
Micah felt a slight relief from the pain in his wound, causing a smile to creep onto his lips. “Are you actually worried about me?”
Darya fought the urge to roll her eyes, her concern for Micah overriding her annoyance. With a calm demeanor, she replied, “I just don’t want to owe you even more.”
Micah’s gaze intensified, his determination shining through. “You can owe me as many times as you want,” he insisted, his voice filled with a mixture of sincerity and playfulness.
Darya was rendered speechless by Micah’s audacity. How could he flirt with her when he was the one injured?

Before she could respond, the sound of an ambulance siren filled the air, signaling its arrival. The medical staff swiftly attended to Micah, preparing to transport him into the ambulance.
Darya moved to follow, but Micah reached out his uninjured hand, gesturing towards the bouquet of roses on the ground. “Those… I bought them for you,” he managed to say before exhaustion took over, his voice trailing off.
Darya halted in her tracks, her attention drawn to the forlorn bouquet of roses lying on the ground. The once vibrant red petals were now marred with brown stains of dried blood.
Her gaze shifted to Micah, and with a conflicted expression, she decided to retrieve the bouquet, acknowledging his gesture.
As Micah caught sight of Darya’s actions, a gentle smile played on his lips before he lay back on the stretcher, his face pale as he succumbed to unconsciousness.
