Chapter 495:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Unable to ignore the fact that Micah had been wounded because of her, Darya made up her mind—she couldn’t leave him behind.
Darya anxiously paced outside the operating theater as Micah underwent surgery. Despite her knowledge that Micah was a seasoned soldier who would likely recover, her heart remained knotted with worry.
After what felt like an interminable amount of time, the red light above the operating theater door finally changed to green.
Fatigue tugged at Darya’s eyelids, but she snapped back to alertness as she observed the change.
She swiftly approached the entrance as a group of nurses and doctors pushed Micah’s gurney out, her gaze fixed on his face. Though still pale, the furrow on his brow had eased, giving him an unusually gentle appearance.
Micah’s current state, displaying vulnerability and tenderness, was a rare sight to behold.
Seeking reassurance, Darya turned to the surgeon, still in scrubs. “Doctor, is he all right?”
The surgeon nodded reassuringly. “Yes, it’s nothing serious. Thankfully, the vital nerves were not affected, or he could have lost the use of his hand.”
Darya heaved a long sigh of relief.
Night had descended upon them.
Darya found herself sitting beside Micah’s bed, her gaze fixed on his sleeping form, a mixture of emotions swirling within her. The encounters with the mercenaries had shattered her belief that they had given up on seeking revenge. Furthermore, Micah now knew that she had saved his life in the past, intensifying the weight of their shared history. Cutting ties with him and starting anew seemed an insurmountable task with these revelations at hand.
Moreover, Micah’s injury had come about because of her, making it difficult for Darya to be too harsh with him. The sense of responsibility weighed heavily on her heart.
In the quiet of the hospital room, a soft moan escaped Micah’s lips, signaling his awakening. His eyes fluttered open, and upon seeing Darya sitting by his side, he spoke in a raspy voice, “You’re still here…”

Interrupting his sentence, Darya asked with genuine concern, “How are you feeling?”
Micah nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving her face. “And you? Are you all right?”
Darya offered a reassuring smile. “Yes, I’m fine.”
A silence settled between them, the spacious ward suddenly feeling empty, with only the two of them in its expanse. The antiseptic scent lingered in the air, creating a sterile atmosphere. Micah’s gaze remained fixed on Darya, unable to get enough of her presence.
