Chapter 500:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Micah’s glare intensified as he confronted Jack, his tone turning cold. “I’ve never met you before. Why did you say that I’m a bad person?”
Jack clutched Darya’s pant leg, his voice filled with distress. “Darya, this bad guy is so scary! He’s angry at me! I’m so scared…”
Micah’s expression darkened like an approaching storm as he observed Jack’s reaction. The sight amused Darya, and she couldn’t help but laugh. She pulled Jack into her embrace and spoke softly, “Don’t be afraid. If he dares to bully you, I’ll help you teach him a lesson!”
Jack nodded obediently, then cheekily stuck his tongue out at Micah.
Micah never expected to be outdone by a child.
Seeing the smile on Darya’s face, Micah sensed her fondness for Jack. Despite his own frustration, he had no choice but to endure it silently.
Noticing the bandage on Micah’s arm, Darya, in an unusually caring gesture, asked, “How are you feeling?”
Micah’s face brightened with a smile. “I’m feeling better.” Their conversation was interrupted by Jack’s hungry pleas.
Darya shifted her attention to Jack. “Let’s go. I’ll take you to dinner,” she said with a smile, taking Jack’s hand as they began to walk away.
Although Darya didn’t invite him, Micah shamelessly followed. But just as he took a few steps, Jack’s voice rang out again.
“Why are you following me and Darya?”
Micah stopped in his tracks, bewildered by why this child always seemed to target him. Unfamiliar with dealing with children, Micah could only manage to say, “I’m hungry too.”
Jack looked at him and shouted, “Then go find your own restaurant!” He eyed Micah critically. “Are you following us because you like Darya?”
Micah was momentarily stunned by the question.

Before he could respond, Jack exclaimed, “She’s mine! You’re not allowed to take her from me!”
Darya was amused by the boy’s outburst. “Micah, he’ll definitely cause a scene if you insist on joining us for dinner. Why don’t you go back to the hospital and rest instead? You could use some recovery time.”
Jack’s antics gave Darya a perfect excuse to keep Micah at a distance.
Micah had no choice but to agree. He was already upset, and the thought of having a child constantly screaming beside him seemed like a nightmare.
As Darya took Jack’s hand and walked away, Micah couldn’t help but imagine what Darya would look like as a mother. If only they had fallen in love during their marriage, perhaps they would have had a child of their own. The thought pierced Micah’s heart like a knife.
If he could turn back time, he would have cherished the moments when Darya loved him, and reciprocated with even more affection. But there were no “ifs” in this world.
