Chapter 1452:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Yet no matter how she tried to convince herself, warmth crept across her cheeks and gave her away.
Collin caught the change at once.
He raised an eyebrow but didn’t call her out. Instead, he explained his connection to the woman in charge. “She and I were in college together. We even started a small venture back then, but before it got off the ground, her family went through a crisis. She had to abandon everything to take over their business.”
Something clicked for Linsey. She glanced around and asked quietly, “So this entire cemetery belongs to her family?”
Collin gave a faint nod, but before he could say more, the elegant woman ahead stopped and ushered them into a refined lounge meant for special guests.
“Please, make yourselves comfortable,” she said warmly, setting out coffee for them.
From her case, she pulled a tablet and accessed the internal registry. “Tell me the name of the person you’re searching for, and I’ll check the records.”
Collin tilted his head toward Linsey.
Prepared for this moment, Linsey gave the name of the fiancée Gorman had once claimed.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Brooks.” After entering the name, the woman scanned the screen and remarked without hesitation, “There’s no record of anyone by that name buried here.”
“What? How could that be?” Shock widened Linsey’s eyes as she struggled to process what she had just been told.
The woman swiveled the tablet in her direction so Linsey could see the result with her own eyes. “See for yourself. The system shows nothing.”
Refusing to accept it, Linsey snatched the device and typed in the name again.

The same blank screen stared back at her.
“No… this can’t be right.” Her voice faltered as panic edged in, her thoughts scattering into a haze.
Was Gorman lying to her from the start?
Was their entire connection built on nothing but a lie?
The question hit her like a blow, and Linsey shot to her feet.
Collin’s voice broke the air. “Where are you planning to go?”
“To the airport.” Her words quivered, her eyes rimmed red. “I need to face Gorman and force him to tell me the truth!”
Linsey didn’t wait another moment and strode toward the door.
Catching the depth of her anguish, Collin offered the woman a brief farewell. “Thank you for your help. I’ll repay the favor another time.”
“You’re welcome,” she replied softly.
Her lips parted, as though she had something more to add.
Yet before she could find the words, Collin had already gone after Linsey.
“Collin.” Her voice slipped out instinctively at the doorway, but he never turned back.
She watched him vanish after Linsey, both of them disappearing down the hall, and her brows drew together in a deep frown.
No matter what Linsey had claimed about being nothing more than Collin’s subordinate, the woman couldn’t rid herself of the feeling that there was far more binding them together.
