Chapter 1950:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Sharon stepped forward, pulled Stella into an embrace, and softly patted her back. “I know this is hard. If you want to cry, then cry. Let it out, you’ll feel a little better.”
Wrapped in Sharon’s arms, feeling the steady warmth of her embrace, Stella finally broke down. Her sobs came out loud and uncontrollable. All the apprehension and helplessness she had been holding in for days poured out at once.
“Sharon, what should I do? I’m so scared… I’m afraid he won’t make it. Am I really going to lose him? Why is this happening to me?”
Her voice came out broken, barely clear through her crying. She had believed that she and William would be able to make it through all the troubles and finally find joy together. So why were they being attacked by one misfortune after another, with no end in sight?
Sharon continued to gently pat her back, staying silent. She knew that before she came back, others must have already tried to comfort Stella, offering reassurance and telling her not to be afraid. Anything she said now would likely sound empty. So instead, she simply held Stella and let her cry, which could make her feel a little better. This likely meant more than any words she could have said.
After a while, Stella’s sobs gradually subsided. She looked up at Sharon, her voice still trembling. “Sharon, thank you for coming, but he’s still in the ward. I can’t stay away from him for too long. I should go back inside now.”
The truth was, Stella was aware that William had been thinking about taking his life. She had found a sharp fruit knife hidden in the drawer beside his bed. They understood each other too well. So the moment she saw the knife, she knew exactly what it was there for.
But she had said nothing. She just took the knife away. Even so, she feared he might find some other way. That was why she couldn’t leave him by himself for a long time. She had only stepped out briefly to catch her breath.
When Stella got back inside the ward, William was still lying there, asleep, though not from rest, but from exhaustion and illness.
Stella sat beside the bed, her gaze fixed on William. She was unable to bear the thought of losing him. Her eyes were heavy with hesitation and pain. “William, no matter how little time we have left, I won’t give up. You have to keep fighting until the antidote is ready.”
The following day, William’s consciousness faded further. The moments when he could recognize anything grew shorter and more infrequent. By the third day, his breathing became labored, forcing the doctors to place him on a ventilator. On the sixth day, Stella was handed a critical condition notice. By then, William had already slipped into a deep coma.

Stella refused to leave his side. She stayed awake for two days and two nights without rest. Her eyes remained fixed on the flickering numbers on the monitor, and she silently prayed for a miracle with every second that passed.
