Chapter 430:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
He didn’t speak as he approached. He simply crossed the library, his boots silent on the smooth stone floor, and placed a hand gently, possessively, on the back of my chair. I looked up to see him watching me, his gaze softer and more contemplative than I had ever seen it in those early, dark days of our partnership.
“The border patrols are back,” he said, his voice a low, resonant rumble that seemed to vibrate in the quiet room. “Everything is completely quiet. The northern territories are actually observing the treaties we laid out at the summit. No skirmishes, no territorial disputes, no posturing. It’s almost… boring.”
I laughed, a sound that felt light, free, and entirely unburdened. “Boring is exactly what we fought for, Samson. Boring is the greatest reward we could ever ask for.”
“I know,” he said, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss to my temple. “But I think we both know that ‘boring’ is a fleeting luxury we don’t get to keep forever. The world has a way of finding us. It’s in our nature.”
“Let it find us,” I said, setting my quill aside and turning to face him fully. “We’re not the same fragile, hunted people we were when it last tried to destroy us. We are the architects now.”
He smiled, a slow, dangerous, and predatory spark glinting in his amber eyes. “No, we aren’t. We are something entirely new.”
He straightened up, his attention shifting to the stacks of fragile scrolls surrounding us. “Elias wants to see us later today in the Grove. He says the Living Seal is showing signs of… something. Something that requires our presence.”
“Something?” I asked, my brow furrowing as a prickle of alarm danced down my spine.
“He wouldn’t elaborate,” Samson said, his expression turning serious and guarded. “He just said it’s time to see what the land has been preparing for us since the bind was tied.”

Curiosity, sharp and bright, pricked at my senses. I stood up, smoothing the front of my tunic, and felt the familiar, protective weight of the mantle on my shoulders.
We made the trek to the Grove in total silence. It felt like we were walking into the heart of a profound secret. The deeper we went into the woods, the more the forest seemed to change — the trees grew closer together, the canopy became thicker, and the natural light filtered through in shafts of pure, concentrated, and magical energy.
When we reached the clearing, Elias and Asher were already there, standing at the edge of the reflective pool. But the pool was different. The water wasn’t still or dark anymore; it was swirling, glowing with an intense, internal light that pulsed rhythmically, like a heartbeat.
“You’re here,” Elias said, his voice trembling with a mixture of awe and exhaustion. He pointed toward the center of the pool with his staff.
Rising from the depths of the shimmering water was a small, delicate sapling. It wasn’t made of wood or bark; it was made of pure, solidified light, its leaves shimmering with the shifting colors of all four seasons.
“What is that?” I whispered, walking toward the water’s edge, mesmerized by the sight.
