Chapter 435:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
I looked out at the valley, feeling the heavy, ornamental weight of the mantle on my shoulders — not as a burden, but as a mantle of hard-won authority. I was the Forest Witch. I was the one who could call the roots to swallow armies and the stars to illuminate the dark. But looking at Samson, I knew that none of that mattered nearly as much as this, the feeling of his hand in mine, the certainty of his presence, and the knowledge that we had finally carved out a space where we could just be ourselves.
“What do you want, Samson?” I asked, my voice steady, cutting through the night air. “When all of this is built, and the treaties are set, and the children are grown — what do you want for us, personally?”
He didn’t hesitate. “I want to be able to wake up in a house that doesn’t have a tactical perimeter. I want to spend a day in the woods without feeling the constant pulse of a defensive ward. I want to build a life that is so quiet, so incredibly, wonderfully mundane, that we eventually forget what the sound of a war horn even is.”
I felt a tear slip down my cheek, not of sadness, but of pure, overwhelming gratitude for the man beside me. “We can have that. We’ll build the sanctuary, we’ll secure the peace, and then… we’ll build that home by the waterfall. Just us, with no legends to live up to.”
He pulled me into him, his chin resting on the top of my head, creating a perfect circle of safety. We stood there for a long time, watching the world breathe in the dark. The shadows that had once haunted our path were gone, and the future, once a terrifying void, had become a vast, open road waiting to be traveled.

“The Forest Witch and her Alpha,” he whispered, his voice warm against my skin.
“Forever,” I promised.
As the night deepened, the forest hummed a low, melodic lullaby, the song of a land that had finally found its masters. We were no longer victims of fate; we were the ones who held the quill, writing our own history, one page at a time. And as the moon continued its slow arc across the sky, I knew one thing for certain: we had finally, truly, begun to live.
