Chapter 774:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Lorenzo’s hands balled into fists. “So it was you? Norene, have you lost your mind?”
Norene smoothed her hair, reminding herself once again why she had come here.
Waylon was likely to arrive any moment now.
“You’re wrong; it wasn’t me. Joseph is the one behind all of this,” she insisted.
Zaria, however, just scoffed in response.
“Hmph, Joseph has no reason to hurt Mona. Do you honestly think he’d have done that without your go-ahead? Don’t think we’re stupid. We know the truth. Remember the time Mona nearly got into a car crash? That was you pulling the strings, too.”
Lorenzo’s disgust for Norene only deepened when he heard this.
His mother had warned him time and again that Norene wanted to hurt Mona and her unborn child. He hadn’t believed it before, but now… he had no choice but to accept the truth.
“Norene, you’ve completely lost your mind. How could you target a pregnant woman?”
Norene refused to own up to it and took a step closer, grasping Lorenzo’s hand.
“Lorenzo, please, trust me. Even though you betrayed me, I wouldn’t do something like that. Joseph acted on his own,” she pleaded.
Lorenzo, however, yanked his hand away, his gaze cold as ice, sending a chill through her.
Zaria scoffed from the side.

“Norene, I deeply regret ever letting you into the Hughes family. How could I have been so blind? I should’ve kept Gracie — she would’ve been the perfect daughter-in-law. Instead, we ended up with you. What kind of curse have we brought upon ourselves?”
Norene let out a bitter laugh at Zaria’s words.
“Zaria, do you remember what you said back then? You called Gracie two-faced. When Lorenzo was around, she played the sweet little angel. But when he was away at work, you had to handle all the chores, eating whatever leftovers she left behind. You couldn’t stand her then — so why are you singing her praises now?”
“You…” Zaria froze, her face showing a mix of shame and anger as she stared at Norene.
“When did I ever say that?”
Her eyes instinctively darted to Gracie, whose expression remained unreadable. Zaria quickly tried to defend herself.
“I clearly said that when I was sick, Gracie stayed up night after night…”
Taking care of me. When I was in debt, Gracie sold her clothes and jewelry to help me pay it off. And when I was nearly killed by gamblers, Gracie was the one who stepped in to protect me…”
