He realized that Gracie had been right — Norene was trying to use Waylon to get rid of him.

“Norene, didn’t you just tell me you loved me? Now you’re ready to use Mr. Hughes to get me out of the way?” Joseph mocked.

“Joseph, you kidnapped Mrs. Hughes. You have to face the music. You shouldn’t have run,” Norene replied, slowly walking closer to him. She quickly leaned in and whispered, “It’s all for the sake of our son.”

Joseph went quiet.

Even though he resented Norene’s betrayal, Joseph knew that he had to think about their son’s future.

There was no escaping the fact he’d end up in prison sooner or later.

Joseph stared at Norene, his mind miles away.

With a small gesture from Waylon, Greg quickly moved in to take Joseph into custody.

Joseph didn’t put up a fight. He knew that it would be pointless to resist Waylon or Greg.

He knelt on the floor, his hands bound behind him.

Zaria couldn’t help but ask, “What’s going on here?”

“Zaria, Lorenzo, there’s a reason for this. Those words I said weren’t genuine. What you saw and heard was just a plan to draw Joseph out,” Norene explained.

Noticing the confusion on Zaria’s face, Norene added, “You and Lorenzo know that Joseph kidnapped Gracie and hid at the Hughes Mansion, don’t you? To help Mr. Hughes catch him, I made Joseph believe that Gavin was his son. But in fact, that’s not true. His father truly is Lorenzo.”

Gracie simply gave Norene a calm smirk, not fooled by her obvious lie.

If Lorenzo bought into this, he was asking for it.

Zaria shot Norene a doubtful look, clearly not believing her story. Lorenzo, on the other hand, looked troubled, his brow furrowing deeply.

“Is this really true?” he asked.

Norene gently pulled at Lorenzo’s sleeve. “Lorenzo, please believe me. If you don’t, you can ask Mr. Hughes. I’m the one who called him about Joseph’s location.”

Hearing this, Lorenzo glanced at Waylon, then quickly dropped his gaze, unable to meet his eyes.

“Mr. Hughes, did Norene tell you about Joseph being at the Hughes Mansion?”

Waylon gave a cold “Hmm,” before adding unexpectedly, “You two are a perfect match.”

Before Lorenzo could lift his head, Waylon went on, “Paulina’s ashes are just next door. If you want to see them, you’re welcome to anytime.”
